paul.h Posted May 14, 2016 Posted May 14, 2016 What is a squib ? Link to your other topic about the squib http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/23789-squib-problems/ Quote
DazoUK Posted May 17, 2016 Author Posted May 17, 2016 Its the unit behind the steering wheel that has the controls for indercators and stuff and the wiers for airbag and horn and all of that stuff Quote
Simple Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Is this what you want:http://www.ebay.ie/itm/171882396207 Quote
paul.h Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 Rather than squib, it tends to be called the comms 2000 unit or steering wheel controls or switching block. A search on squib sometimes comes up with the air bag due to the igniter in it with reference to fireworks, hence the need to ask what you meant. There are different versions of it for your car depending on what features it has. The Citroen part numbers all start 6242 or 6243 and then 2 letters or numbers depending on the features. To get the right one you will need to use your VIN in the Citroen parts diagrams to get the right part number and then do an ebay or other search using that. You can see the parts diagrams as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Then once on the site use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. The switching block can be found under Electric Unit, Lighting - Signalling, Controls Under The Steering Wheel. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres you might need to select your language first. Johndouglas Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 A puzzle solved! There's a guy who advertises on ebay. He can do repairs on some types for around 30 quid. Quote
paul.h Posted May 17, 2016 Posted May 17, 2016 A search on comms 2000 repairs came up with this. I do not know if they are any good, so it is not a recommendation http://www.comunits.com/ Quote
DazoUK Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 Ok another question i can get a 3 port comms unit for the c8 can i take the pcb out of this 4 port unit and swap them so the 3 port becoms a 4 with the working airbag and horn Quote
paul.h Posted May 22, 2016 Posted May 22, 2016 By ports I guess you mean switch stalks. The indicator and wiper stalks are part of the unit but the cruise control and radio (?) control stalks are separate parts that plug in. So what looks like a 3 stalk unit might possibly be changed to a 4 stalk one if the extra stalk is plugged in. However, I have no experience of this so am not sure. I do not know if the insides of the units can be swapped over. I vaguely remember people adding cruise control to C5s by plugging in the cruise stalk and a few other bits. Quote
DazoUK Posted May 22, 2016 Author Posted May 22, 2016 I wish it was that as on the back of unit are 4 plugs but on a 3 port is only 3 plugs as thay are part of the pcb Quote
DazoUK Posted May 28, 2016 Author Posted May 28, 2016 Hi big update i got a comms unite and worked grate untill a burning smell and the horn setting off this is the 3rd time now wear should i be looking as its something other than the comms unit Quote
paul.h Posted May 28, 2016 Posted May 28, 2016 These are just guesses but you may end up needing to try a Citroen dealer:- you could check all the fuses are the correct rating since you would expect a fuse to blow before any wiring melts- look for any wiring damage such as bare wires which might be touching the bodywork or around the steering wheel/column- remove the horn fuse and disconnect the horn in case it is faulty and check the wiring to it is not damaged- try the comms unit without the horn wire connected if this is possible- there will be a relay in the engine fusebox for the horn and possibly this is faulty but I do not know if it could be replaced- possibly the rotary contact below the comms unit is faulty Quote
