balam37 Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 Hi, As I have posted here I bought a cheap xsara 1.4i 2000 model a couple of months ago. The rear wiper wasn't working and the bloke that sold it to me included a new wiper motor but it turns out it is the wrong one.although listed for the car, I have since bought another rear wiper motor but it has the wrong plug on it for my car, and Citroen cannot help me. my original plug has 3 contacts in it and the later models although they are listed by Citroen for my car has four and they are of a different colour. ( namely brown) Has anybody the older type plug with only 3 contacts in it or a part number for it. Thankyou in advance. Barrie. Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 There are two motors listed. Part number 6405E5 and 6405H2. The first one is prior to RPO 08472 and the second one from RPO 08473.. Quote
paul.h Posted May 18, 2016 Posted May 18, 2016 If the car is an estate, they also have different part nos. 6405F2 to RPO 08472 and 6405H1 from RPO 08743. Quote
balam37 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 No paul mine is the hatch back and yes John that is the numbers I have but citroen tell me they are no more available, I now have both those numbers as spare in my boot and both have the wrong connecting plug on them for my car. If I could only find a matching plug connector I could probably fix one up to match mine. I will probably have to hunt round a breakers yard with a pocket full of tools as I would have to take the cladding offthe doner car to get at it to cut the last six inches of cable complete with plug to perform the surgery. Thanks a lot anyway for confirming my findings.Barrie. Quote
paul.h Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 You could always remove a plug and use an electrical connector or solder the wires if the motors you have will work on your car. Or maybe you could dismantle a motor and repair your existing one. It may only be the motor brushes that have worn out if it is not working. Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 19, 2016 Posted May 19, 2016 Were I in your situation I would cut off the plugs and find a suitable 3 pin connector from the RS or Maplin catalogues - or do as Paul suggested and use an electrical connecting strip. Quote
balam37 Posted May 19, 2016 Author Posted May 19, 2016 Yes I had thought of both those remedies but I would prefer to keep original if possible that is why I would prefer to just get the connector but being a Citroen it doesn't seem to be a possibility. I suppose I was expecting too much with me having a Merc 190E and having done loads of repairs, up-grading and modifications to it I thought it might be possible with Citroen but one cannot even get a simple connector from Citroen. Thanks again for your suggestions, my search goes on B) Barrie. Quote
balam37 Posted May 23, 2016 Author Posted May 23, 2016 Well after doing a lot of research on the subject of rear wiper motors I have found that there are actually two different numbers but unfortunately they fitted them with different plugs on them, which is not listed. I now have I think the correct one coming to me in the post, should arrive on Wednesday so we will see. The two different numbers that are listed are for the motor with an interface for the fitting of a 'delay relay' which mine has and the other for without the interface. Also the two different plugs that they fitted one is black with three pins and the other brown with I think four or five pins but they are not mentioned in their parts lists. Also I have come across another problem that might arise when doing ones own work is that the three 'pop rivets' for fitting to the car are not of a normal size, with my 'pop rivet' pliers there are three different 'collets' but none are big enough for the rivets supplied so it looks as if I will have to drill one of the 'collets' out to suit. But then I am having other thoughts on solving that problem and will keep you all informed in due course. Quote
balam37 Posted May 24, 2016 Author Posted May 24, 2016 Ok I have sorted one problem with w the rivets, it is possible with a bit of fiddling to remove the three bolts from behind the motor. My other problem with getting the right motor after receiving the latest one (it is the wrong plug on it) so there is three different plugs, mine is a flat three point plug and I have received a brown square four point and also now a flat white four point plug so what the H*** were citroen thinking about. ??? Incidentally they are all listed for my car. At this rate I don't think any modern citroens will reach the 'Classic' stage. But the hunt goes on. Quote
paul.h Posted May 25, 2016 Posted May 25, 2016 How many wires are there in your 3 pin plug and in the 4 pin plugs and are the colours of the wires the same (or the number codes on them) ? Is it just a case of in your existing wiring 2 of the wires join togther so only 3 pins have been used ? Quote
balam37 Posted May 26, 2016 Author Posted May 26, 2016 That is quite possible Paul but I will have to take all the rear hatch cladding off again to check that and am now awaiting better weather. Also I have some other things to check first as I was relying on the previous owners information in relation that it is the motor that is non-funktual. But having searched the net I have found it could be something else that is stopping it working. So when the weather gets better hereI will be checking for other faults by doing 'continuity checks' in the wiring and making a direct connection from the battery to motor to check that as well. Oh and I have found that my particular model has three different coloured plugs, black three pin white three or four pin but different shape to mine and then there is a brown one with four pins. paul.h Posted May 26, 2016 Posted May 26, 2016 I often take photos of things when in bits / uncovered / before dismantling if I am likely to need to remember what something looked like. On a car something like the rear drum brakes is worth doing before starting to remove the shoe springs. Quote
