toastie15 Posted July 28, 2016 Posted July 28, 2016 Hi all, I have a 03 plate C5 VTR hatchback and I have been having problems with the tail gate. It was sticking before so gave it a good spray with WD40 that sorted it for a while, but then this morning it wouldn't budge so gave it another spray and managed to get it open but now it won't budge. Has anyone got a solution, thanks in advance for any help. Quote
paul.h Posted July 29, 2016 Posted July 29, 2016 Are you saying the lock is not unlocking when you push the tail gate switch or is it unlocking but the struts/hinges are seized so the tail gate will not lift up or it will lift up with a bit of help but the struts are low on pressure ? Quote
toastie15 Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 The lock is not unlocking even though previously a good squirt of W40 without stripping anything cured it for a while. Quote
paul.h Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 It could be the door switch contacts are dirty. To test it, if you remove its electrical connector, bridge across the wiring connector pins with a bit of wire and if it is the switch the lock should work since all the switch does is earth the supply wire. If you have a meter you could also check the switch for electrical continuity whilst you have the connector removed. Quote
toastie15 Posted July 31, 2016 Author Posted July 31, 2016 (edited) When pressing the button on the boot lid doesn't seem anythingis really happening. Edited July 31, 2016 by toastie15 Quote
paul.h Posted July 31, 2016 Posted July 31, 2016 Bridge the pins on its wiring connector and see if the lock then works. Quote
toastie15 Posted August 13, 2016 Author Posted August 13, 2016 Update mechanic has got it open and it's the actual boot lid switch as its all corroded just need to source another one, hoping to find a secondhand one. Quote
paul.h Posted August 13, 2016 Posted August 13, 2016 The Citroen part no. could be 6554F1, if you can not get a used part I would imagine a new one is not that expensive from a dealer. Quote
toastie15 Posted August 14, 2016 Author Posted August 14, 2016 Thanks for that have been unable to source a secondhand one so will just get a new one. Quote
