Rookie2 Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 (edited) HiUnfortunately auto electrics are almost impossible to diagnose without actually having the vehicle in front of you.Having said that, a member might just come along who has had exactly the same problem and could pinpoint it for you straight away.Failing that, I'm afraid you are left with a long laborious chore of working your way through one system at a time looking for a short or a drain to eath. Given that the lights work ok before ignition then it is safe to say that the problem could lie in the ignition switch itself or even a relay following the switch. Try the alternator, it could be shorting out as the problem only occurs when engine turning, clean the engine to body earth wire (usually on top of the gearbox). Sorry I cant be more help but hopefully an electrical genius will be along soon Edited October 8, 2016 by Rookie2 Quote
SilverCloud Posted October 8, 2016 Author Posted October 8, 2016 Battery light is all the time on i guess alternator is not working properly will check tomorrow with meter. Quote
paul.h Posted October 8, 2016 Posted October 8, 2016 Maybe there is a problem with the dash/speedo unit or its connector or wiring. Beware if you try a used one from another car since on Citroens the mileage is stored on the ecu and also on the dash and if one is changed the car will then show the higher mileage of the dash or ecu. eg one car is 50k miles, other on 100k miles, then fit dash from 100k mile car to 50k mile one - the 50k mile car will now show 100k miles. coastline taxis Posted October 10, 2016 Posted October 10, 2016 check the wires on the back of the ignition switch. have seen a few of these try to pull an earth thru the ignition wiring. If damaged or showing signs of melting then replace Quote
Lee Tucker Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Hi can anybody help me..I have a 2003 xsara Picasso 2.0hdi..just now I was driving it and engine fault light came up on dashboard and the car total cut out on me? I tried to start it up and its trying its hardest to fire but wont?? Any one have same problem or can help me thanks..it was running perfectly fine 2 minutes prior to this.. Quote
paul.h Posted February 2, 2017 Posted February 2, 2017 Welcome to the forum. The fault could be anything that affects the exhaust emissions but since the engine light has come on there will be a fault code stored and freeze frame data of the engine sensors stored. You need a code reader to read the fault code and data and this shold tell you what is wrong. To guess what is wrong could come up with a long list and if you start replacing parts it could cost a lot before you found the actual fault. Possibilities can include the in tank fuel pump, the fuel pressure sensor, the crank shaft sensor, the cam shaft sensor, others. If you do not have a code reader and do your own maintenance/repairs, then it is cheaper to buy a code reader than pay a garage to do this. Diesel cars though did not need to be OBD compliant until 2004 so you need to check that a code reader will work on your car before buying one. One that gives live data is more useful than a lower cost one without. As an example but I am not sure if it will work on your car https://www.gendan.co.uk/product_FXNT200.html Quote
