Got the lexia running and had a couple of codes come up,one i read online might be a glow plug?

Car starts first turn, but what ive noticed is with it getting colder it takes a noticeable 2 seconds or so longer to start, thats all.

I've never really been aware of a glow plug symbol on the dash you usually get on a diesel?,does the dash light just come on when its cold enough?

Don't know if these are maybe old fault codes i'm picking up,can i just erase them, then look for faults again then whatever faults show will be live or current ones? Here is a pic of the faults.

Since you do not know how old the faults are and if they have been fixed by a previous owner they should be noted and then erased and then read again after using the car. On my hand held code reader the codes are erased with the ignition on but the engine not running i.e. the dash lit up. If you also have the fault codes note these since it is easier to do an internet search with them. A usual one for the glow plugs I think is P1351. I have never used a Lexia but maybe it can give you data to check the glow plugs.

The glow plug light in warmer weather may just flash up but as it gets colder it may show a bit longer. You could try the ignition key with the dash lit up for a few seconds before starting to see if this helps but it could be the plugs need replacing.

I always think the glow plugs are better changed sooner rather than later. If you don't get them out now you may struggle later.

Mine were tight and squeaky coming out but I bet they were 14 year old originals. 3 were dud. Nice set of Beru ones put in with some anti-seize and it's a job well worth it.

The part numbers vary with engine size and rpo number across mark 1 and mark 2 C5s. You may be best to get the parts from a Citroen dealer using your car VIN. I also vaguely remember arak81 getting glow plugs for his C4 which turned out to be the wrong ones and did not work properly.

glow plugs basicly go by the engine and not the year. if its a 8 valve then there easy to get to and change. If its the 16 valve engine then there a pig. right up at the back of the engine and in between the manifold ports 1st 2 on the right are ok to do but the last 2 are just pigs

Think its an 8 valve.Ive taken off the top engine cover for a quick look, and there they were, looks pretty straightforward.

Most sellers on Ebay seem to sell them by year of the car, some even selling them for £8.99,for four!!

Use the parts diagrams to get the right part number for your car against your VIN, then search on ebay using the part number. If you have not already done it, register on service.citroen as an other professional non emergency services and as a member of the Citroen Owners Club. Once on the site use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. Glow plugs come under electrical and not mechanical as you may first think. http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres

Ths is the topic where arak81 mentions using the wrong glow plugs http://www.citroen-owners-club.co.uk/citroen/topic/24014-car-drives-rough-and-engine-light-on-for-citroen-c4-55reg-hatchback/
