arak81 Posted December 22, 2016 Author Posted December 22, 2016 Smoke is not gine..this morning it was huge...don't know what's wrong..MAF has been tested ok..even with another MAF it does smoke...can it be because changing oil...or something...as I hadc ha.ged oi, oil filter etc! Quote
coastline taxis Posted December 23, 2016 Posted December 23, 2016 go bac to the garage and get him to record the live data off the engine need it recording at tickover then again at 3000 revs and tell him to select all readings in the live data then post them on here please. black smoke is down to either serious amounts of excess fuel getting in or a intercooler pipe split or intercooler itself knackered Quote
arak81 Posted December 23, 2016 Author Posted December 23, 2016 Nice to see you back coastline taxis..I don't think the guy will bother to do the test again...yesterday we went to Birminham to visit my friend and round trip was 292 miles...fuel costed me 29 Litres which seems to me as same as it was before. and by the way,it doesn't constantly emitting smoke only when starting from cold engine. As slowly as engine becomes hot it starts emitting smoke for few minutes and then stop...so only time when engine getting warmer from cold car emits smoke..and they are not really blackish black to be precise..they are kind of blue...This change started sience I have changed the engine oil (low Saps- total quartz Ineo ECS 5W 30), original citroen oil filter. MAF Sansor Meter was damaged though and I have replaced..so don't know exactly what might causing this smoke. there is no loss of power though. it could be normal, but my point it I have never noticed it before changing oil,oil filter and so on. coastline taxis Posted December 24, 2016 Posted December 24, 2016 have you over filled the oil by anychance Quote
arak81 Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 I didn't pour the oil. it was local garage who did oil and oil filter changing..I have done air filter and cabin filter. I gave him 5liters oil and he didn't give me back any remaining oil..I tried to check with dipstick and it appeared to me that the oil measurement was right. Quote
arak81 Posted December 24, 2016 Author Posted December 24, 2016 (edited) To be honest with you..oil seems to be bit higher than the full mark..I have checked this afternoon again and it seems oil level crossed the criss-cross mark of the orange part of the dipstick..In fact the whole orange part covers the oil. paul.h Posted December 25, 2016 Posted December 25, 2016 The Haynes manual gives the oil amount as 3.75 litres for the 1.6 diesel and on the dip stick from min to max as 1.5 litres so possibly there is about 0.5 litre too much going by the dip stick. Haynes sometimes gets the amount wrong though and I find the plastic dip sticks can be misleading if they are not wiped before taking the level. Did it start to smoke straight after the oil change ? arak81 Posted December 25, 2016 Author Posted December 25, 2016 I can't be sure..but there was no smoke before doing servicing whatsoever. Last year i used different oil bought from eurocarparts..but this time i used recommended oil and genuine citroen oil filter bought from ebay. smoke doesn't occur all the time as i said you guys..its only when starting from cold engine and as the engine warms up it kicks off smoke and through out the whole drive no smoke...but if you stop and let the car running you will see slowly smoke is being emitting. coastline taxis Posted December 26, 2016 Posted December 26, 2016 what does the smoke smell off Quote
arak81 Posted December 26, 2016 Author Posted December 26, 2016 Burnt fuel or oil..and it irritates eyes. Quote
Rookie2 Posted December 28, 2016 Posted December 28, 2016 Is the smoke Blue or Black ?Blue smoke indicates oil burning whilst Black smoke indicates diesel. If smoke is blue, start the car from cold and run for about 1 minute.then switch off. Remove the turbo outlet hose and look into the turbo, do you see oil coating the inside of the turbo outlet stub pipe ? - If the alloy outlet pipes internal wall is coated in oil then it is likely your turbo is on it's way out, the fact that the smoke lessens after warm up indicates that the expansion of the hot turbo is closing the seal gap enough to hold back the oil. If smoke is black then you will need to get a read out from the injectors using live data, there is a laymans way to check the injectors but the pressures are so high that is you do not know what you are doing it can be highly dangerous and is not recommended. Finally, please remember when buying from EBAY, despite what a seller may state in his advert "Genuine Item" or how about "Original Equipment" etc etc. The seller wants to sell his item and many of them will use whatever tactics s needed to achieve that, the old adage "Buyer Beware" holds true. arak81 Posted December 29, 2016 Author Posted December 29, 2016 (edited) the smoke is not blackish black..kind of blue...and I checked the turbo outlet...there was no oil at all...tried twice...but no sign of oil..I used tissue.. other thing is I noticed that almost every car smoke.and their smoke and my smoke is the same colour..someone said it because of winter, but I didn't see last year winter my car smoking. paul.h Posted December 29, 2016 Posted December 29, 2016 On a cold day the smoke you can see out of an exhaust is water vapour that is condensing (like a kettle boiling) and continues to show until the exhaust gets warm. It looks worse on a petrol car than a diesel. It tends to look white. The water comes from burning the diesel or petrol which gives mainly carbon dioxide and water. If you place a hand near the end of the exhaust whilst this is happening it will get wet and you might also see water dripping out of the end of the exhaust. You can also check the coolant level since a head gasket failure can result in a lot of water vapour in the exhaust. Quote
