Hi guys, I have the 1.6HDI and on these cold mornings when I start my car it fires up straight away, but then dies 5 or so seconds later. It then takes a good couple of minutes turning it over until it starts up again.

There are no warning lights and if the temperature stays reasonably high overnight (6+degrees) the issue doesn't happen at all.

Any ideas?

Hi

I would check the cam shaft sensor and also the LP fuel pump.

Take the sensor out and give it a clean (gently)

If you have a code reader that does live data have a look at the temperatures - inlet air and coolant (engine) to see if they are correct - if not they may be causing the wrong fuel/air mixture. You could also look at the fuel pressure. Also maybe the glow plugs need looking at although most people say they are not needed until below freezing to help starting. When was the fuel filter last changed ?

Fuel filter was changed 12 months ago, the car needs a service though, to be fair. I drive 95% motorway miles and the car does 400-450 miles per week and I try to service it every 8,000 miles but I'm 4,000 late for this one due to one reason or another.

It's had fuel injector problems in the past as when I got it it was pretty 'carboned up' and number 1 injector needed to be taken out cleaned off then re-seated. DPF was changed 16,000 miles ago and the guy did say I may get sensor problems as one new part in an older system can throw up errors.

The car is an absolute dream in most ways though, I throw the cruise control on at 70 and it just glides to work, I love the stupid old thing, she's just riddled with little issues, unfortunately.
