Leoni5325 Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Hello all! I'm a newbie to this forum and need some advice if possible :) I've recently aquired a citreon c3 07 plate, it's only done 38,000 and isnt used every day, more like every other. However, today i've drove to work and when i started the car, it revved to '2' without pressing the accelerator, clutch or brake. Then whilst driving, i noticed it would over rev to 2 when braking and putting the clutch in. Someone has suggested it might be sticky throttle and just need some WD40! Then someone else has advised it could be a new clutch. It's not losing power, and drives ok - I'm not very car savvy so im seeking some assistance, dont want to take it to a garage without some ideas what it may be. Any advice would be much appreciated :) Thanks guys Quote
paul.h Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Welcome to the forum. Which engine does your car have, petrol, diesel and which size/power output ? If a diesel check the oil level, if high or if the turbo is worn the engine could be running on the engine oil. Is the exhaust smoking ? I doubt it is the clutch that is slipping since it would not cause the engine speed to increase without touching the accelerator pedal. Is the temperature indication normal, assuming you have indication since later C3 cars do not have it. Quote
Leoni5325 Posted March 27, 2017 Author Posted March 27, 2017 Hi Paul! Thanks for getting back to me! It's a petrol car and the oil was topped up last week, all good! Exhaust isn't smoking - no other issues! Not sure what the temperature indicator is! Like I said, not very car savvy I'm afraid - In fact I'm useless! Just worried it's going to be an arm and a leg kind of job. Moved my mats, as read that could catch but still happening an I'm afraid to drive it! Goes up to 3! Sometimes when stationary too! Quote
paul.h Posted March 27, 2017 Posted March 27, 2017 Could be a problem with the accelerator pedal since these are electric but it could be something else. I would take it to a Citroen dealer and let them find out what is wrong. Quote
coastline taxis Posted March 28, 2017 Posted March 28, 2017 use some carb cleaner and spray it into the throttle body with the engine off. wipe dry with a clean rag Quote
