rob8647 Posted April 2, 2017 Posted April 2, 2017 Sorry if this had been covered, not used to oil filter with the plastic casing. Came to try and change the filter today, but could not get it off. Was able to losen it but would not pull up and off. Is there a knack, tool or method that I am missing? Thx Rob Quote
paul.h Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 Welcome to the forum. I guess you have done this by now, but possibly the cover was not undone far enough or you did not pull it up hard enough to remove the cover. Quote
rob8647 Posted April 3, 2017 Author Posted April 3, 2017 Not had another go, as wife's out in it, I was able to undo it, till it just rotated round, but it would not pull up and off. I'll have another go if it's just elbow grease that's needed. Other than spilling a little oil, should it be ok to change without having to drain all the oil again? Quote
paul.h Posted April 3, 2017 Posted April 3, 2017 I would think the oil in the sump does not need changing again, the dirt in the filter element is not likely to end up in the fresh oil. It could be the cover O ring seal is causing the cover to catch or maybe the tube inside the filter is a bit stiff in the filter case. When the filter cover is lifted up a bit as it is undone, the internal drain tube at the bottom of the filter is supposed to lift up so the filter bowl will drain to the sump and reduce the oil mess but I have found it does not really help. A lot of tissues around the filter body will help keep the mess to a minimum. It could be the cover O ring seal is causing the cover to catch or maybe the tube inside the filter is a bit stiff in the filter case. A bit of oil smeared on the cover O-ring seal helps when fitting the cover back. Quote
