Citroen C8, year 2003, 2.0 petrol version, Automatic.

Ok last friday drove the car out, ABS fault popped up, then in succession the Auto gear fault, then something like brake fault, and the airbag fault but this usually is intermittent, then car gets stuck in i believe is 3rd gear possibly as i couldn't go up the hill after stopping the car. Really annoying i wish i could burn the damn thing down to the ground.

Tiptronic gears don't work as well so i cant use the +- to shift the gears. im guessing its the auto gear selector switch, as the dealer replaced it with a used part before i bought it as when i was testing it back then the +- couldn't be used, and he told me he swapped it for used part and it worked since up until now. So my guess is pointing to that however whole bunch of errors like the ABS and etc popped up.

Went into lexia and found all these errors below, tried to erase them but couldn't as it says permanent errors, what do i do next im not sure where is it pointing to maybe you guys can help out here? im at a point where once i fix these issues i think im probably done and try to get rid of it as fast as i can. I really love the car as its once of the most comfortable cars i've had and its so spacious to fit the whole family in, but having it working for only half a month everytime is getting really annoying. Even my local mechanic is getting tired of seeing it. I've also got an intermittent antipollution error which is in another thread that i've yet to solve.

Fyi parts that i've changed  so far:-

Throttle position sensor

Brake master Cylinder (brakes been spongy and going deep whenever pressed on, no leaks, changed the cylinder and still the same issue so need to check other parts im guessing the ABS fault could be related here)

Timing belt change, fan aux belts, water pump, oil seals.

Replaced ATF fluids however it was done by a citroen specialist so they didn't change it at the required temperature so not sure how badly it would cause issues with the box. Don't think they change the gearbox seal though. This was done maybe 8 mths back.

New alternator

New Aircon compressor

New Power steering switch (due to leakage, however i still find the reservoir loosing fluids but can't pinpoint where)

Screen shots of the errors below from lexia:-

What do i do next?

The spongy brakes could be air or the rear brakes need adjusting. Sometimes people adjust the handbrake too much which prevents the rear brake self adjusters working, resulting in a lot of pedal travel.

yeap bled the brakes a while ago but still the same, not sure about the handbrake though will inform my mechanic about it.

Any ideas where the errors are pointing to? i don't want to end up changing something only to know that they aren't spoilt

You seem to have a fault with the LH front abs sensor which could be its wiring/connector or the sensor. This may be causing some of the other faults since the road speed from the sensor will not be correct. Probably worth while to fix this and then see what faults are left. A possible check on the abs sensors is to see what resistance they give on a meter by disconnecting the wiring connector - a faulty one would likely give a different value to the other 3.

I am not sure but you may also have a problem with the abs pump, its wiring or ecu.

ok thanks this is so strange yesterday i took it out for a spin, on initial start up the abs fault showed up but then when i drove out the light dissapeared and the auto gear fault also dissapeared and it was driving perfectly fine.

today morning tested it again, gearbox fault not there anymore, but abs fault is out again and the STOP light is also up so i parked it back and left it there.

There seems to be something seriuosly not right could dodgy earth wires or weak battery cause something like this to happen?

You can check the battery voltage, should be about 12.5 volts before starting the car and about 14.4 once the engine is running. You could also check the connector on the abs pump is clean and not loose. To correctly bleed the brakes I think the abs pump has to be run using your Lexia, did you do this to help remove any air ?

Is the weather the same each day when the fault shows or not, just in case rain is affecting the abs sensor/its wiring/connector.

At the end of the day, you may end up needing to use a dealer to sort the problems. A new abs pump could cost more than the value of the car so a used one may be better if it does need replacing.

hi thanks for your reply really appreciate your help on this. The bleeding wasn't done with a lexia tool, the mechanic wasn't a specialist in citroens so im guessing he just bled the brakes the old school way.

i think the weather does play a role here, but its still hard to pinpoint, i would say the errors usually pop up 6 times out of 10 after a wet day.

Sending it to the mechanic tomorrow to get it checked, the voltages and etc but im pretty sure im not going to get a brand new abs pump if it comes to that, is the abs pump similar to this link? >> http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/CITROEN-C8-BOSCH-ABS-PUMP-MODULE-0265950075-581114-0-265-950-075-/122431319650?hash=item1c8179ae62:g:4X8AAOSww3tY48cN

do you know where i can check for the part numbers for the c8?

Also where do i refer to on the error codes? is there anywhere online that provides a list of errors and what it means?

thx

You can see the Citroen parts diagrams as a free service if you register on the service.citroen site as an other professional non emergency services and then as a member of the Citroen Owners Club http://service.citroen.com/do/changerParametres You may need to select your language first. Once on the site use your VIN (VIS) top left to find your car. The Citroen part number can then be used in an ebay search for used parts.

There is a list of error codes on here in the Petrol diesel LPG section. It is not complete though and I usually do a google search with the code and Citroen. It could be you have a wiring problem, particularly if the abs pump is in the front left wing and you have the front left abs sensor showing a fault. This came up on a C4 with U1209 fault code http://c4owners.org/plugins/forum/forum_viewtopic.php?171576

I think the brakes are bled using the usual method of pumping the pedal (or using a vacuum or pressure bleeder) until all the air is removed at each brake but then the Lexia is used to run the abs pump (using the abs or esp menu) if it is thought air has got in to the complete system rather than at one brake - this could be the case when the master cylinder has been replaced.

ok mechanic finally came back and said the abs pump is faulty, aany idea if i can use the diesel model for the abs pump on the petrol one?

I can't seem to find any used ones for a petrol version. a brand new one cost a bomb.

When the replacement pump is fitted, it might need a diagnostic.

there's no register button on that site, only insert a username and password field, and forgot password, no register. Tried searching on google and no luck on a register page as well. Any ideas?

Just tried the link again, you need at the bottom right to select your language English(UK) and then a Registration button appears top right on the screen.

thanks Paul, but i still don't get the register button, i think because my ip isn't from the UK maybe. Anyhow i managed to repair it, got a used abs pump frm ebay and everything started working fine again, there was no issue with the left hand sensor as shown in lexia, erased all the errors, and gearbox faults are also gone and have not shown up since.

Airbag light still pops up once in a while not too concerned about that though.

One more error still popping up which is the P0121 error still can't seem to figure that one out. Will continue in my other thread that has the discussion on this error. thanks!

see no register button :)
