Hello 😉

I am looking to replace my 2005 2.0HDI weekend with an mk3 tourer

My current C5 has done 315.000km with no major problems.

I am mainly looking for a 163 or 200hp diesel with automatic

What can I expect in terms of comfort and reliability compared with my current C5?

Cost of maintenance, rust problems and so on?

Are there any big advantages or problems with either the 163hp or the 200hp?

My current only has H3, is H3+ in the mk3 a big step up?

Thank you in advance

Hi

Thank you for the reply.

In Denmark it is not only the exclusive that has H3+

Most of the C5 for sale in Denmark is the "seduction" version, almost all of them has H3+

I doubt if the ride on the Mk3 Exclusive is any better than on your current model. Also, there seem to be a lot more problems reported on the Mk3 (X7) C5 than the Mk2 (2004 - 2008/9) so.......

On the C5 technical section there is a pinned topic of common problems to have a look at. For the C5 (X7) a leaking steering rack, front wiper motors, window winders come to mind. Out of the 2 engines I would think the 2.0 hdi may be a better option than the 200 hp (3.0 hdi ?). There is a topic on here somewhere on the 3.0 hdi where it had a running problem for years that could not be sorted. The boot in the X7 C5 is not as large as the earlier models.

Hello again.

Is the general feel really that the X7 is alot more problems than the old model?

I drive around 4500-5000km pr month, would this be troublesome in an X7?

I have seen around 8 different C5 tourer, and my feeling is that the ride is much more soft and comfortable than my 2005 C5 weekend.

I have allmost selected a 2011 2.0HDI 163 Auto.

Do you have some good ideas for some preventative maintenance to do when I get it?

Additional to normal servicing, greasing the steering rack steering column shaft might prevent it rusting and causing the rack seal leaking. The front wiper motors might benefit from putting sealant around the controllers on them to prevent water ingress and the circuit boards failing. I would not go over the recommended service interval for the timing belt replacement - 10 years or a given mileage if sooner (the handbook gives the mileage but could be 140k miles).
