superstardj01 Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Hi, this is my first post, sorry to start with a question. My C4 VTS 2006 aircon isn't blowing cold, I get hot air and cool air (both sides) but switching on the aircon on seems to make no difference at all, i've checked both the fuses under the bonnet and the glove box, although they had brown marks on them the fuses look intact, is there anything else I can check before getting it re-gassed? cheers Quote
paul.h Posted June 27, 2017 Posted June 27, 2017 Welcome to the forum. When you switch on the air con can you hear the air con blower clicking in and also the refrigerant gas flowing round. At 11 years old though it is most likely in need of a regas, I had our C5 and an ealier one both done at about 7 years old due to not cooling much. You should also check the cabin blower and the radiator fan are working which is needed for the air con to work. Quote
superstardj01 Posted June 28, 2017 Author Posted June 28, 2017 When i switch it on after a few seconds it starts to blow harder l i ke in others when aircon comes on? How do i check the fan and gas? Quote
superstardj01 Posted June 28, 2017 Author Posted June 28, 2017 I guess to test the fan i would switch the aircon on open the bonnet and listen Quote
paul.h Posted June 28, 2017 Posted June 28, 2017 You can not really check the gas yourself, it needs to be done by a garage with the correct equipment to remove the existing gas to see how much there is compared to how much the car should have. The last time I had the C5 regassed there was about 100 grams in the car but it should be about 500 grams - 100 was not enough to cool the car but was enough to show the right pressures so the air con would run. In my case, the pump appeared to be running, and no leaks found, and the culprit (I'm told) is a failed compressor. Quote
Routemaster1 Posted July 1, 2017 Posted July 1, 2017 compressors are expensive Not if under warranty though Quote
