In the handbook under doors, it shows how to lock them without needing the battery (copied below). The passenger doors in the side have a hole under the lock in which the key can be inserted and turned an eighth of a turn, then shut the door. The driver's door just use the key in the lock. I do not know if the 2008 on C5 (X7) suffers as badly as the earlier C5 for the battery discharging if not used, if it does not then you could leave the battery connected. On our 2007 and previous 2004 C5, if not used for a month the battery would be flat.

If the car is being left in a garage, I would leave the handbrake off to stop its pads sticking to the discs but leave it in gear or the wheels chocked. If the handbrake is electric I do not know if this is possible though.

Emergency control

System which locks or unlocks the

doors mechanically in the event of

a malfunction of the battery or of the

central locking.

Locking the driver's door

Insert the key in the lock, then

turn it to the right.

Unlocking the driver's door

Insert the key in the lock, then

turn it to the left.

Locking the front and rear

passenger doors

Insert the key in the lock, located

on the edge of the door, then turn

it one eighth of a turn .

You may find the suspension will settle lower, too low to get a jack under. So, I suggest you suspend the car off its wheels (helps prevent tyre flat spots), or at least place a pair of axle stands under the front or rear. If you are confident the engine will restart after a long spell then the suspension will rise OK. However, if the engine wont restart you will need to get under the vehicle and if its settled too low for jacking you are stuck.

I don't know whether the C5 electric parking brake is like a C4 Picasso, but on those stop the engine, switch on the 'ignition' without starting the engine, operate the brake switch with your foot on the footbrake. Switch off the ignition.

twoseefives has not been back yet to read the replies so I do not know how important this topic is.

Beware that if the car is being jacked up and the wheels left hanging, it first should be raised to the suspension max height. Then on the C5 X7 with the hydraulic suspension, the suspension lds fluid tank cap should be slackened off and left this way until the car is back on the ground - if not the tank could split. If left undone though for some time the lds fluid might absorb water and need replacing, otherwise it might not perform that well but might lead to corrosion in the hydraulics.
