Hi.

I have just tried to replace the filter on my 2.2 2008 X7. All but one of the push connectors came off easily. The last one which appears to go back towards the tank has not come off and I've now damaged it. Can I replace this connector?

Also when I took the old filter out there was a connector hanging loose below it. Neither the old nor the new filter have any pins in the socket at the bottom of the filter. Should the new filter have sort of circuitry built in?

Citroen do not list the connectors separate from the pipes and it looks as if they sell the return pipe as a set with the supply pipe, part no. could be 1579PE (check with your VIN). An ebay search did not come up with one so I do not know what it would cost. The short bit of pipe with the priming bulb looks the same as on our C5 so if you visit a breakers there may be a good choice of cars to get just this section from the bulb to the filter.

I would try  a message to coastline taxis, he might have something in the garage for a fix.

Some filters have a heater and a water measurement, so the wiring could be for one of those. From memory, on our C5 the connector was pushed in the filter base but it did not connect to anything.

I do not know if you are trying to remove the pipes properly, but the coloured inserts in the connectors are pushed in and not levered out and whilst held in the connectors slide off. The green insert looks as if that has been broken a bit.

Thanks Paul. I tried pushing the connector in but it would not release the clamp. The facade was caused when I eventually used the tip of a screwdriver. Luckily it is only the one clamp damaged as all the rest came off fine.

Does anyone know whether the return could be secured with a jubilee clamp or whether the pressure is too great?

I do not know about a jubilee clip but it could be worth a try. However, it might not get through the MOT but I am not sure. I would think the end at the priming pump would easily remove from the pump. If so you could get this section to the filter from a scrap yard for many Citroens or maybe coastline taxis has one. A search on ebay shows many sellers of used parts so at worst it will be around £30. As an example from the 2004 to 2007 C5 https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/2005-2008-CITROEN-C5-ESTATE-2-2-HDi-4HS-HAND-PRIMER-PUMP-FUEL-PIPE/201932535393?_trkparms=aid%3D222007%26algo%3DSIM.MBE%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D49479%26meid%3D11fce61111b14c40a6cb2616c2b9166b%26pid%3D100011%26rk%3D1%26rkt%3D12%26sd%3D201632082696&_trksid=p2047675.c100011.m1850

I would try something like wd40 on the white push clip to free it off so it will move over its full travel.

This site has connectors and you might be able to find the part you need. In the pictures it shows how the push clips work https://www.aliexpress.com/item/10mm-ID6-Fuel-line-quick-connector-gasoline-filter-fuel-filter-for-Peugeot-and-Citroen-5-pcs/32820204920.html?spm=2114.search0306.3.149.MvxaDx&ws_ab_test=searchweb0_0,searchweb201602_0_10190_10130_10152_10151_10539_10594_10596_10059_10312_10314_10534_10313_10084_100031_10083_10184_10547_10107_10546_10307_10604_10548_10603_10605_10341_10065_10142_10340_10068_10343_10541_10342_10345_10103_10344_10303_10325_10324,searchweb201603_0,ppcSwitch_0&algo_pvid=da0b80db-0312-4b08-8a9f-c3d19c4661f4&algo_expid=da0b80db-0312-4b08-8a9f-c3d19c4661f4-22

Many thanks guys. @Paulh I will take a look at Alexpress as I already buy off them.

@Coastline Taxis I will give a jubilee a bash in the meantime. MOT is up today so need to get the car sorted ASAP.

Anyone have trouble replacing the fuel filter cover?

Have done this job a few times and it's always a bugger to open and then screw up tight. The ridiculous plastic hexagon is well chewed so the socket slips off. Use plumbers grips on it and it chews up even more. Looks like I'll have to buy a complete filter case just for the lid.

Have replaced the filter and rubber seal and it doesn't want to fasten down. Goes one and half turns and no more. Should go another half turn to mate the lugs on casing and cover and put the in and out spouts facing the right way.  If I put more pressure on it feels like it will break. The new filter is 75mms tall, same as the old. In fact it may be a midges shorter so should screw down easier. Thought maybe the rubber seal was too thick so put the old one back, still same problem.

Not going anywhere till this is sorted.

Filter lid shows "Purflux FC582".

Looking in the Haynes manual, for the filter using a 22 mm socket to undo the lid, when putting it back the seal should be lubricated with clean fuel and then the lid tightened by 90 degrees clockwise.  For the filter using a 27 mm socket to undo the lid, it says to lubricate the seal and then tighten until the filter head touches the stop.

On our C5 the filter is built in to the case so all of it is replaced but this costs a lot.
