PeteY Posted May 3, 2007 Posted May 3, 2007 Hi, I am due to pick up a 2003 C5 2.0HDI 110BHP tomorrow, it has covered 72,000 miles is there anything I should be looking out for and have checked. I have a 12 month warranty to put any potential faults right. Also does anyone recommend the BHP boosing boxes for sale on ebay etc for £200-£300? Thanks in advance Pete Quote
paul.h Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Welcome.Only 2 things I have sorted are a wet drivers footwell (rain going through the middle wiper grommet or behind the windscreen lower plastic scuttle drips into the air intake and gets in the car) and rear brake squeal (caused by corrosion between the caliper and suspension arm). Both are not major problems. The French ETAI workshop manuals are worth getting (plus a dictionary) since Haynes do not do one. The pictures are good, give all torque settings, worth getting the mark 2 C5 one also since a lot is common to both models and the pictures are better. Amongst other places, www.culture-factory.fr sell them. Quote
72dudes Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 I would advise you to check all the electrics carefully - windows, door locks, the LCD displays. Also that the steering wheel stalks operate correctly - they switch items on and off via radio frequency transmissions and can occasionally cause problems. Make sure the suspension rises and falls as it should using the control between the seats and that there are no warnings showing in the central multi-function display when you first start up. Your warranty should cover you for any major problems though - so once you've checked these things relax and enjoy the marvellous comfort and economy! Good luck. Quote
old'uns Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 at 72k i'd be asking about cam belt change.also eloys fluid, need to check whether yours has it? Quote
citroeneddie Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 Welcome Pete. I have a new look C5 estate with 72k on the clock and no problems. I was thinking of changing for a C4 later in the year, but I might get another C5 hatch instead because of the comfort and economy. Enjoy! Quote
Randombloke Posted May 4, 2007 Posted May 4, 2007 at 72k i'd be asking about cam belt change.also eloys fluid, need to check whether yours has it? IIRC HDi engines have 100k cam belt changes. Eolys fluid and DPF AIUI only apply to the 2.2 HDi in the 2003 model? Later models have DPF in all engines sizes? BHP boosting can also be done as a download by Superchips. It's invisible to all but the knowledgeable......... but must be declared. Quote
shallishanti? Posted May 5, 2007 Posted May 5, 2007 Yep - no Eolys on Mark 1 2.0 HDi. Cambelt is indeed 100k, but may be better getting it done a bit earlier. Should not be a concern at that mileage. RF stalk switches? Not heard of that but......COM 2000 unit can be the cause of malfunctioning stalk switched items. My 52 plate 2.0HDi has 67k on it now. Only issue with it is the tailgate window will not open. Not a difficult fix but I don't need it that badly that I can be bothered to mend it. Electric locks and windows can be iffy, but won't necessarily be. Air con could be expensive of course. Check all the electrics work. Suspension tends to be pretty reliable with the later type spheres as fitted on the C5. Quote
