Citroen C5 Estate Rear Screen - This Time, Stuck Open!

I have a 53 C5 V6 Estate which has a working rear screen that has been fine up until now. However, one of the kids opened it the other day, and somehow the lock mechanism that holds the screen closed has shut fast meaning that the screen canot close.

The central locking seems to be working fine in that when activated the ram covered in the rubber cover moves, but it doesn't affect the lock. I have taken off the boot trim but nothing I do will make this move.

Any ideas if this might be because the earth signal through the read screen isn't making it to the lock? Do you think a temporary shorting wire might help?

Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

I have done the repair to a failed rear screen and even if the wire has failed it is still possible to manually move the solenoid under the trim and the boot will unlock.

All I can suggest is that you take the trim off, disconnect the actuator ram/solenoid from the car electrics and then manually operate the ram. This should allow the lock to pop open, then you should be able to close the glass section once and for all. If the ram does not move when disconnected from the car electrics then there possibly is your answer to the fault! It has seized?!

Also check you are pushing the ram in the right direction, it's easy to do the opposite as the ram does not operate how it appears to.

Once you have got the glass closed you can use the car, then download the pictures from the Yahoo C5 site for the repair, having read the excellent instructions here that save time, as you may mot have to do all that the Yahoon site suggests.

Regardless of all that you will need a multimeter.

Thank you so much for your reply. The ram does move fine both on the switch and manually but it does not seem to affect the locking mechanism, the "claw" part of the lock stays resolutely across the lock opening. I will have another go tomorrow and see whether I was moving it in the right direction - I am pretty sure I was...

It may be that the lock has simply seized I supposed - hope not...
