Randombloke Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 I've already bought one scanner/code reader, which does not work. Fortunately I can return it as the retailer assured me it would work with my vehicle. It is OBD 2, CAN but does not work with my car. It is a Geniscan 300. It lit up with the welcome message and preformed a scan but non of its protocols matched the car, and it ended up displaying a Link error Which models of scanner are know to work in reading diagnostic codes from a 2002 2.2HDi C5? Please do not suggest eBay, they all say it will work but do not really know for sure. I'm looking for someone who has bought and used a scanner successfully with a an HDi engine and ideally a 2.2. Thanks. Quote
iannez Posted June 29, 2007 Posted June 29, 2007 the only ones i have used that work apart from dealers (proxia + lexia) are the snap on and mac ones but these are around £1500 and you have to have the right keys at extra cost and the can bus lead. Quote

Thanks. OBD2 (aka EOBD) was not obligatory on diesels until 2004, (2001 for petrol cars) so I guess it's a case of finding out what protocol your car employs and finding a suitable scanner from there. I have a cheap OBD2 which works on my old 2002 petrol but it won't turn off the engine light, even when it confirms it has. Reads the codes OK though. Engine light goes out eventually anyway Quote
Johndouglas Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 I have a Geniscan 400 - but mine is a 2005 model. Quote
coastline taxis Posted August 6, 2009 Posted August 6, 2009 we use snap on ethos and solus and belive it or not a elm unit of ebay 20 quid and it shows all the codes up only thing was that it was a proper pain to get it to hook up to the laptop (ended up putting it into pc shop) but other than that its fine Quote
