Guest c5vtr Posted March 27, 2008 Posted March 27, 2008 hi previous xantia owner for many years and now a C5 owner, having browsed the forum i'd like the various members to clue me in, so.... C5 Vtr 2.0 hdi - Nov 03 Ice Green 94k wired for cd changer, but i don't have itdon't possess the separate 'Sport' mode on suspension very pleased but.... 1. is this what would be referred to as a Mk 1 model, and how do i know the difference to a latter model? 2. do i have the particulate filter? 3. do i have the diesel additive set up? 4. I'm used to adding the suspension fluid myself to the Xantia but frankly this car is ambigious and i'm initially wary, advice? 5. i'm writing to the previous owner for specific service details but what, given the mileage, should i definately want to see? The last owner had it serviced all over Antrim, i'm in Belfast, any members recommend a garage either Antrim/Down? Any and all input welcome oh and after a further read on here i have the following from the driver door pillar 09590cj10192 < i have the service light on at the mo so this is likely a large service particulate/eloys fluid etc for my current mileage?LQHC < this is paint isn't it? Hope the above helps Quote
paul.h Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 Welcome to the forum.1. Mark 2 model started September 2004 and have the different rear lights and front. So you have a mark 1. 2/3. You do not have the particulate filter in the exhaust or eolys fluid - only applied to 2.2 hdi on the mark 1 car. 4. It should not need any suspension fluid unless there is a leak. 5. The service schedule should be in the car handbook but is similar to other cars - filter (oil/air/cabin pollen) changes, brake checks/clean, oil changes, fuel filter, maybe cambelt at this mileage, brake fluid change every 2 years, anti freeze may be the type that does not need regular changes - if so it is a yellowish colour. I think I have remembered most items. Quote

Paul thanks for the Welcome and ans to my questions, i have a further couple if thats ok 1. is the lack of particulate/eolys of any advantage/disadvantage apart from the cost of having them changed? 2. are there any specific issues with the Mk 1 models i should be aware of eg binding brakes ? 3. i'm currently seeing 35mpg ish, is that ok or should i expect more? only niggle that i have is that she feels a bit 'crashy' at low speed over bumps etc and even at high speed on dual carriageway etc depending on the surface i'm on i can feel the ripples in the road literally. Is this a combo of alloys and tyres? Once again all help/advice most welcome, from what i've seen whilst lurking the forum seems a knowledgeable place to be. cheers Quote

'Tis an advantage (to you) that you don't have the filter and fluid. Your pocket will be considerably heavier. The "green" brigade might be unhappy as (supposedly) its not as clean as they think it might be. 2. There are issues with all models of c5 - just trawl the various forums. You are either lucky or unlucky. I'm not sure they are seriously any worse than many other high tech cars these days from what I've read on other forums. Your ride, however, does seem a little harsh and might indicate a further investigation in the forums regarding spheres etc might be needed. 3. Your mpg seems rather low. It depends on where and how you drive. Lots of short journeys and brisk acceleration could account for this low figure. Only when I'm towing do I get less than 40mpg with my 2.2 HDi SX and am averaging 44-48mpg with a mix of country lane and motorway usage. Quote

I understand what you mean regards the issues relating to all cars and to be honest this one has been very well maintained. From what i understand from your replies i essentially have an uprated version of my previous Xantia, which all in all is a good thing. The ride itself isn't harsh or 'tight' in the slightest, i've had that in the xantia, the vibration of which snapped a weld on the drivers seat! It comes across as really sensitive, if the road is billiard smooth then so am i and vice versa but yes i'll have the spheres/struts investigated though it passed the MOT Dec 07. I do wonder bout the mpg, i'm still learning the engine as it where so perhaps its my driving style. Though my work run is about 14 miles round trip with the return being up a steep hill (M2 to the locals). To be honest i'm hankering after a good long run to see whats what. thanks all for the info so far Quote
iannez Posted March 28, 2008 Posted March 28, 2008 if you can pick any sort of a fault with the ride quality on a c5 theres something wrong. if the spheres are on there way out and not totaly shot it would still pass an mot. only other thing to worry about on these is corrosion build up on the fixing plate of the rear calipers causing them to twist and make contact with the disk. Guest c5vtr Posted March 29, 2008 Posted March 29, 2008 Well thats fair enough, i did the bounce test on the corners and whilst not as floaty as the xantia the car still moved smoothly up and down. However i'll still have them looked at and possibly replaced, i intend to have this car for a while and it'll be worth the cost which i know isn't that prohibitive. I'm not having any brake issues as has been described many times on the this forum but again i'll get ahead of the problem if i can. Quote

Cheers I'm still getting a knocking/rattle at low speed on bumpy roads, its a sound rather than any vibration i can feel in the steering. As you see i'm not having any issues at all with the suspension, rises/falls as it should when i get in, turning at low speed though i havent noticed the high speed adjustment yet and again when u bounce the corners its all good. I've come across posts on the web that say Citroen issued a fix which either entailed a rear weight or bushes - its really odd. The previous owner took really good care of this car but i'd say swapped out good tyres Michelin/Dunlop/Continental for cheap cheap Tigar and Accelerata for the MoT. I'd be interested to know if you added/installed anything to ur car that its wired for but didn't come with i.e the sat nav or cd changer? Quote

If you do not have the Sport mode button then you have H3 fitted to your car not H3+ so you will not see any high speed adjustment AIUI. Quote

Cool, thanks for that, i did wonder. Any specific issues with the H3 setup that have come to light over time? Quote
shallishanti? Posted May 3, 2008 Posted May 3, 2008 akaik Citroen say that the suspension shouldn't need looking at for 125k miles. Suggests it's pretty well sorted. 86k on mine now, and no suspension issues................quickly touching wood. Quote
