busman Posted September 14, 2011 Posted September 14, 2011 I own a C5 estate.2.0 hpi exclusive. It was my dads who recently lost his battle with cancer. He only wanted £500.00 for it.It is an 02 .The engine is 148bhp.My dad paid £800.00 for it 18 months ago, and had spent over £600.00 on parts/service.I have receipts for over £2k from previous owners.I recently had to replace the radiator fan, EGr valve, spark plugs, air filter, and had an engine anti pollution error too.I have spent £500.00 my self.I was recommended to use 97 octane fuel, as this would prevent filters clogging, and eliminate the engine anti pollution problem.I have been using high octane for around 2 months now and the car runs smooth.I did have a problem with performance and sluggishness.I put BG44K in the fuel tank, ran it to near empty, then filled up again. It now performs like a racing car.I think that if you use high octane fuel as recommended by Citroen, and put a can of BG44k (around £12-£18 a can on ebay),in your fuel tank, then you shouldn't have any problems. Stu63 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 I have a slow 02 2.0hdi 110....good car badly let down by lack of grunt Quote
Norlander Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 2002 SX with the 2.2 engine; automatic. Re-mapped, with DPF removal.Still not reached 55,000 miles. At present running on Goodyear Ultragrip 8 tyres, will switch to (new) Michelin Energy Savers for summer. Quote
mlkey Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Previously a 2002 2.0L SX 110 HDI, purchased at 80k miles, sold when it hit 160k. Only failure was head gasket at 118k, no biggie. Now proud owner of 2004 2.0L petrol auto SX, loving it. Got it with just 31k miles on it, now on 42k. Just added cruise and a full non Citroen entertainment system. Told you I would get another, and I will get yet another after this one, comfy well equipped car for not much money. As reliable as anything else if looked after! Quote
Stu63 Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Nice car Mikey, but a 2.0 petrol auto wouldnt pull you out of bed....but then you probably dont have it for that Quote
mlkey Posted November 3, 2011 Posted November 3, 2011 Nice car Mikey, but a 2.0 petrol auto wouldnt pull you out of bed....but then you probably dont have it for that Ya think? I towed a caravan with the old HDI, and I tow the same caravan with the current C5. We went down to Cornwall in the summer, and we were breezing past most other caravans on the long uphills on the A38. I continue to be surprised how good it is. Ok, so not much pull in the low RPM, but when the car is capable of near 80 mph in second, then 55mph up the inclines at 4000 RPM is no effort as it is on the engine's max torque output. It does for me, much quieter and more refined than the diesel, and not purchased for speed. It does all we need and that is all I am concerned with. Quote

I've had 2 c5's both petrol - a 2002 sx manual and now a 2008 exclusive auto (mk 2). Just had a big bill on the autobox rebuild (ouch) but wouldn't change the car. Borrowed an 11 reg C4 diesel while the repair was being done, and it gave me a headache. Horrible growly engine. Don't care about MPG - have a Company fuel card.. Quote
ukwide Posted November 4, 2011 Posted November 4, 2011 Hi we have a 57 plate 2.2hdi VTX+ auto, bought it in Feb 2011 with 20k on the clock, just had 20k service and its pretty good so far, with no problems, pulls like a train and getting mid to high 40's mpg............ Quote
GooglyBear Posted November 26, 2011 Posted November 26, 2011 Mine's is a 2003 HDi (110) SX hatch, in that funny light green colour (paint code LQHC).Bought specifically to give me some protection from the state of our roads, having a long standing back injury.Car had only one previous (business) owner with full service history, and a non-smoking car.I sought out this particular model for its cheap road tax (£125-a-year when i got it almost a year and a half ago), moving up from a pre-2001 (road tax cut-off) Fiat Marea, which cost me £240-a-year. I didn't realise quite how harsh that felt until i drove the C5.Can't see me driving anything else in my lifetime, unless i win the lottery, in which case i'd probably treat myself to a C6 Quote
TMC Posted June 2, 2013 Posted June 2, 2013 Hi all, I have a C5 1.6 HDI 109 hp 2005 bought from 2007. Quote
slicknic Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hi All, Just joined this forum.I have a 2010 C5 3.0HDi V6 Exclusive.I bought it with 9000 miles on in November 2012. I use the car for work, and it's now showing around 24k miles. The car has had a small problem with the sat nav display which got corrupted and then starting thinking it was a Peugeot! Also the car has 19" wheels - they look great, however tyres are approx £200 per corner, the fronts only last 15k miles, and I've already damaged 2 alloys by not avoiding potholes. Ouch! Nick Quote
Johndouglas Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Hi & welcome to the forum. That sounds like a nice car. Maybe one of my colleagues can help with your sat nav problem when they come on. Yes - tyres don't last long on the front. I manage about 18-19 thou on mine. Quote
slicknic Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Maybe one of my colleagues can help with your sat nav problem when they come on. Thanks John. Luckily my car is still within the 3 years manufacturers Warranty, so my dealer fixed it for no charge to me. Good news. I would be interested to know if you can update the maps in the satnav. I guess I should really read the manual. The maps are held on an SD card which slots in the dashboard. I really must backup the SD card at some point too. Quote
Parkesie Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 (edited) 58 plate exclusive estate in dark metallic blue. Absolutely love it only thing I'd replace it with is another 1 :)Has the 18 inch wheels on only buckled 1 of them hitting a monster pot hole and knakered the tyre whoopsy. Edited June 10, 2013 by Parkesie Quote
paul.h Posted June 10, 2013 Posted June 10, 2013 Sat nav SD cards can be bought from a Citroen dealer based on this link for £129 http://www.navigation.com/C5-2010-MyWay/citroen-eu/catalog/en_GB/GBP/ It looks as if the Navteq map data though is from 2011 if you look at the In the box tabs. Quote
Fuzzybrush Posted August 18, 2013 Posted August 18, 2013 09 C5 2.7 V6 exclusive with Sat Nav and 19" alloys in black Quote
Tinkledrum Posted January 12, 2014 Posted January 12, 2014 Hi I run a c/5 2.2 hdi exclusive auto with full length sunroof, good when it starts to rain it will auto close.By the way 52 plate, 125.000 miles, runs sweet stopped my old 2.2 uto hdi sx plus a grand, the new exclusive, really good I like the leather and heated seats, on a run in cruise 74 mph I am getting 46mpg.I have a caravan 5mtre French job, the precious c/5 achieved 34mph at 50/60 mph. As previous members say Citreon are a delight when towing, never a drama, the car with it's all thing suspension keeps it nice and straight, the auto box never moans, although on steep inclines I pull it back with the box when going downhill. The zenon lights are a big improvement. I have run Citreon all my life thro d/s c/x x/m, and I think now I am on my fith c5 this is the best of all. Quote
dflflack Posted January 26, 2014 Posted January 26, 2014 I have a 2010 exclusive 3.0 litre V6 HDI with 275 Hp. Its a really swift and comfortable. It returns 49 Mpg on a steady motorway run and 32 mpg around town, that better than my first car a 1957 Morris Minor post office van (still fondly remembered) Quote
qman3428 Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 2.0 hdi exclusive saloon on an 09 plate, now covered 115000 miles, has been chipped, K&N panel filters and defapped. Performance is excellent and she has never failed to get me home. Fuel filters need changing every 10k or you get the depolution fault and limp mode. Just stop the car and restart it. The fault still shows but the limp option has gone. Needing new tyres soon and cant decide what to put on it, any recommendations? I need good mileage, reasonable grip and a quiet tyre. Found Michelins are expensive and not necessarily long lived, Goodyears wore out quickly. Have used Bridgestones on a previous vehicle with good results. Quote
paul.h Posted January 29, 2014 Posted January 29, 2014 qman3428,where do you get your fuel from ? Quote
Michelotti Posted April 13, 2014 Posted April 13, 2014 56REG 1.6HDI LX. Currently 83K Had it 8 months and no problems up to press......Apart from dipped beam and sidelight bulbs ...thank god for skinny kids with double jointed wrists at my local Halfords! Bought it to do a job .......get me to work comfortably, reliably and economically......which so far it has done perfectly well. Service and MOT coming up in may......I reckon that will set me back 3 or 400 quid (Just general w&t stuff like brakes) Quote
qman3428 Posted May 8, 2014 Posted May 8, 2014 Paul H, sorry missed the question, I was getting it from Asda but have found Tesco fuel is better and Texaco better still but as I do 550 miles per week and have to pay for the stuff myself a few pennies per litre all adds up Quote
Sixchannel Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 C5 VTR+NAV 160 TOURER - Feb 2010 Reg - 59 plate. (almost a 10 plate!! lol!) Quote
dave_m citc5 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 hi,1st time on here have got a 2002 c5 2000 hdi lx with 114,000 been good have had it last 6 years put on 60,000 only had mot's,servcng,t/belt and a battery a few b/calipers but nothing major it owes me nothing although it wont start now there was a bit of noise from front which got a bit louder so i think its the fuel pump!! (either inside fuel tank/high pressure!!!)+clutch looks like its not got much life left will have to start pricing these although i have seen a 2007 2ltr vtr hdi estate with 60,000 on but wanting £4,000 ouch!! 6 months warranty a bit pricy am hooked with these c5's although i dont think many people fancy the mk'3s look nice but a list of faults goin by here so i'll stay clear(and also the 1.6s)the guys here are a wealth of knowledge i'll tell yacheers and many thanks davy. paul.h Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Welcome to the forum. If you do decide to go for the mark 2 C5 it is an improvement on the mark 1 and handles better. But it will have a dpf and at 60k miles may be only about 10k miles short of needing it cleaning/replacing and the eolys fluid topping up. Estates tend to be dearer than hatchbacks but having gone from a mark 1 hatchback to a mark 2 estate, I prefer the estate, it is better for moving a lot of stuff about. Quote
