just wonder what people are getting "in the real world" mpg-wise for the 1.6 HDi?

Mixed driving with no thoughts of driving economically, about 550 miles per tank; driven ultra carefully as if there's an egg between throttle and foot, about 650. I once achieved 700, but never managed to repeat it.

Average mpg according to the trip computer over the last few months has been 46.3

07 reg 1.6HDi 92 bHP

ouch! thats a lot less than I thought. I've had 54+ on the last 3 tankfuls on 2.0HDi, and it doesnt seem to be much different running around to on motorway...

We have a 92hp 1.6D with 30,000 km on the clock. Here in France we have empty roads with a limit of 90kph (56mph) so the car tends to be working in it's most economical speed range most of the time. We get about 56-58mpg. When on the autoroutes at 130k (81mph) we get about 48-50mpg. On the rare occasions we visit UK we drive mainly in the SE and don't get under 50mpg - then again its hard to go anything other then SLOW!

I've covered 2247 miles since picking up my 08 1.6HDI 92bhp. I didn't expect good fuel figures for the first few tank fulls, but as the engine loosens up, I'd have expected the mpg to improve. Instead the figures are slightly worse??? From new the 1st full tank returned 48.19mpg. (571miles) The latest fill-up returned 46.78mpg (556miles) Over all, the average mpg for the 2247 miles covered is 47+ which I must say I'm disappointed with.

tronboy returning 600 & then 700 miles on a single fill (app 58mpg for the latter) is what I would expect from a modern 1.6 92 HDI diesel engine. But 47mpg is very poor. I can't be accused of a heavy right boot, as I'm a retired mechanical engineer, so I know how an engine should be run-in.

So what is the average miles per hour according to the computer that you have travelled at to achieve you fuel economy?

Good question. When I went through the manual having got the motor home, I couldn't work out how the computor worked. So I took the car into the dealer, only to be told I don't have this facility, on my 2008 Desire 1.6 HDI Diesel??????

I'm not convinced how accurate the computer readings are anyway ! See Long Term Road Test C3.

All I do is tot up the mileage covered & do the conversion to get mpg. As I've stated, the heavy right boot, doesn't come into the equasion. It would, if I was happy the engine & componants were fully run-in.

for relation to speed it has been at 30mph thru town and 70+ for motorway/dual carriageway driving and in relation to inaccurate trip readings well by checking amount of fuel used ie at pump in filling station and the number of miles the onboard computer is almost spot on

My computer as far as I'm concerned is wildly optimistic. Nearly 10mpg higher than I'm achieveing and recording manually.

We've had our Mk3 (1.6HDi 90 bhp) for just over a year now and over almost 12000 miles we've averaged 42.3mpg

Not that impressive. We're getting around 400 miles to a fill-up (usually about 40 litres)

The new berlingo is bigger and heavier than the old one. I've also noticed that the aerodynamics (or not!) have a huge effect above 65-70mph. But its insanely practical, especially as we've got the extra row of seats option. I used to have a ZX and during the fuel blockades I managed nearly 2 weeks of commuting 40 miles each way a day on one tankful.

hi all, I have had my mk3 since april , jst done 6k and average between 47 - 49 mpg according to trip computer,

Not as good as hoped for but it is a big van ish... my old VW t4 camper, 2.5 petrol auto gave me 18 mpg max so this is a bonus. I also have a fitted Fiamma bike rack fitted full time , roofbars on top of rales . so they dont help.
