72dudes Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 Had my 7th routine service today at my Citroen indy (£213 - not bad). Afterwards he advised that my timing belt will be due to be done soon, as the car will be seven years old in September. It's only done 59k miles! Now, I've searched the forum and the service manual, and as far as I can tell, the correct interval is 100,000 miles, although several owners have suggested changing it a bit earlier to be safe. Nowhere can I find anything about "7 years or 100,000, whichever comes first." What are other owners opinions and could the Citroen techs please comment. Many thanks. Quote
kfk Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 100,000 miles normal use, 80,000 miles harsh use or every 10 years if this occurs sooner. Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 Or a £1000 when it snaps and you have to replace the head.7 years in various temperatures diferents speeds and strains on it also not to mention any contamination of the belt through oil or water. Think id be changing it just for the peace of mind factor as 7 years is a long time. Quote

Nowhere can I find anything about "7 years or 100,000, whichever comes first." I might be wrong but I thought services were every 12,500 miles or every year, whichever comes first. So, 8 years or 100,000 miles. I would be kind of wary knowing how many 2.2s have broken belts. 59,000 is a bit early, but I would consider it at 75,000 or 87,500. I had mine done at the 87,5k. Quote
kfk Posted July 11, 2008 Posted July 11, 2008 .....yup your wrong  ......they do have a 12,500 service interval.....and if you are doing 12,500 miles in a year or less you would be getting the belt changed on the 8th service.........however, if your doing low mileage they put a time limit on it....which is 10 years. For vehicles which are used under harsh stop start/dusty conditions (taxi drivers/couriers should read this), the vehicle should be serviced every 10,000 miles, and the belt replaced at 80,000 miles.........so next time you hear of someone with a belt failure you need to ask yourself if they were maintaining it correctly....not many do because they want to save pennies! Whoops, sorry, guv. I'm not sure now that I would risk either 10 years or 100,000 miles. The pile of bits on that C8 2.2 that had suffered a broken belt was mind boggling. Thankfully, it was not mine, or it would have been wallet emptying too. Quote
72dudes Posted July 15, 2008 Author Posted July 15, 2008 Thanks for the facts and advice guys. Looks like I've got a little while longer before I need to incur this necessary expense. Quote
myglaren Posted July 15, 2008 Posted July 15, 2008 I'm having mine done next month, along with a new tensioner, water pump and auxilliary belts. It should have been done at 100,000 as stated above.Looking at the service history booklet gives me no indication whether it has or hasn't been done so I'm getting it sorted just in case - cheaper than a new head/engine.
