coastline taxis Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 can anyone explain how the 02 sensors work as im having problems with them. when the car is plugged in there are no trouble codes present but on live data it says that both sensors b4 and after cat are not ready checked wiring and fuses and all ok. local dealer says they have never come accross the problem b4.history = the car bought with snapped belt replaced 4 valves= engine fires up straight away but idles iraticly revs up okmy thinking = because the o2 sensors are not sending readings back then the car cant adjust the fuel/air mixture c5 2litre petrol y reg 90k Quote
kfk Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 Upstream oxygen sensor voltage: - In open loop : The voltage supplied by the upstream sensor should be fixed and between 0,1 and 1 volt - In closed loop : The voltage supplied by the upstream sensor should fluctuate between 0,1 and 1 volt Downstream oxygen sensor voltage: - In open loop : The voltage supplied by the downstream sensor should be fixed and between 0,1 and 1 volt - In closed loop : The voltage supplied by the downstream sensor should fluctuate very slightly and be between 0,1 and 1 volt In open loop : The ECU does not regulate the richness In closed loop : The ECU regulates the richness Quote
kfk Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 I might add that the HPi isnt always that easy to get codes from using aftermarket scanners......if you unplug anything do you get a fault code?.....the following are codes that can be generated by the HPi injection ECU. coastline taxis Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 so what does it mean when it says 02 sensors not ready thata the bit that myself or the dealers havent come across b4.as i have a strong feeling that this is the cause of the problem Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 what pcode are you getting? Its not showing any codes at all just 02 sensors not ready. This is the bit that the dealer cant understand an says it must be showing a code until we ran the car through to him and showed him. Quote

kfk Posted July 27, 2008 Posted July 27, 2008 So are you getting any voltage at all to the oxygen sensors? Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 So are you getting any voltage at all to the oxygen sensors?Yes voltage to both sensors. dealer say voltage is correct. I get on really well with him and hes going to phone citreon tomorow for advice.Got me baffled Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 27, 2008 Author Posted July 27, 2008 Yes voltage to both sensors. dealer say voltage is correct. I get on really well with him and hes going to phone citreon tomorow for advice.Got me baffledThe scanner im using is snap on ethos 8.2. if thats of any use to you Quote
coastline taxis Posted July 30, 2008 Author Posted July 30, 2008 The scanner im using is snap on ethos 8.2. if thats of any use to youProblem solved had just had the scanner updated of snapon (from 7.2 to 8.2 ) and it turns out that it was a software issue with the scanner. reloaded the software again today and now no problem showing with the sensors at all. The tick over has now sorted itself out can only assume that the valve needed a bit more time to seal themselves up. Anyway its running perfect now so all is well with the world. Quote
techbod Posted July 30, 2008 Posted July 30, 2008 its all down to timing through the ECU, bring back the old ds :P Quote
