coastline taxis Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 hello new to this sitehad my c5 2.2 hdi 52 for 18 monthsi need to change front padshow easy/difficult is it ? do you need any special tools to do the job?is there anything i need to look out for ?many thanks in advancestefan 1 x 13mm spanner1 x 17mm spanner1 tin brake cleanerlittle bit of vaseline1 wind back tool or pair of grip or improvise 1 set of pads Its fairly straight forward remove wheel youl see 2 wires going to your brake pads unplug these.Youl now see 2 x 13mm bolts on the side of the caliper that faces engine/box The straight behind them youl see a 17mm nut put a spanner on that then unscrew 13 mm bolts. pull caliper away from wheel and remove brake pads. Now get tin of brake cleaner and spray inside of caliper also wire brush caliper but take it easy on the rubber dust sleeve then another squirt of brake cleaner now get a bit vaseline and rub it into dust cover. now get your wind back tool and wind the piston back into the caliper put your new pads in and replace caliper dont forget to replace the wear inicator wires then squirt it all down with brake cleaner. (If youve went for the cheaper pads youl have to put some cooper slip on the back of them or theyl squeal) Should take about 20 mins a side Quote
Guest stefanc5 Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 cheersthanks for that sounds fairly straight forward :) this wind back tool, can you buy them and what does it look like is it like the one for the vauxhall's looks like a big allen key? thanksstefan Quote
techbod Posted August 2, 2008 Posted August 2, 2008 there is a picture of it in this link about half way down and halfords have them in for £20 you could use a pair of large crock pliers and a g clamp to push the piston in while turning it and not a lot of pressure required. http://images.google.co.uk/imgres?imgurl=h...5GB285%26sa%3DN Quote

Johndouglas Posted August 3, 2008 Posted August 3, 2008 You also need to know that in winding back the pistons, the offside need to wind anticlockwise and the nearside clockwise. Quote
