Hi.

My Dad has just bought a 2005 C3. It didnt have the user manual with it and he is struggling to understand how you make the rear demister work. Can anyone tell me how you select it on etc? (sorry for being vauge, but i live 100miles away from him so havent seen it myself to help him, and all im going off is what he has tried to explain to me) :)

Many thanks

Are we talking about rear windscreen wiper or rear windscreen electric demistor.

True the rear wiper is on the wiper stalk, to activate turn the end of the stalk clockwise (as you look at from the drivers door, i.e. the top of it away from you as you drive. This will turn it ON. It operates on a wipe then park action which controlled by the car, it is not continuous.

If you wish to use the washer then turn it again against the spring stop. This will activate the rear washer. Note if the wiper is OFF and the washer is used the unit sparys and then the wiper operates for 4 sweeps.

The rear demister which uses the electric elements in the glass to heat it, is controlled by the button on the heater control panel, which is mounted below the stowage box under the radio and in front of the gear lever. This button is the top far RIGHT one.

It also activates the electric heaters in the rearview mirrors. Once activated it will switch OFF after a time interval OR can be pressed again to turn it OFF.

Please note that if the front and or rear wiper system are left ON and then ignition key is then removed , to reactivate the wipers you have to move the switches or stalks to OFF then back ON.

The button on the far top LEFT is the front windscreen demist activator and forces the fan into high speed and directs air at the windscreen.

Hope this helps

One thing you might want to check (if the heated rear window switch is lighting up, but the window isn't clearing) is that the connector on the nearside of the glass is still in plcae.

Mine mysteriously broke off all by itself when the car was with a dealer for some rectification work*, and the only cure is a new rear screen.

* the dealer, of course, knew nothing about this, much like they didn't know who'd broken the lugs off the engine cover, attempted to glue it back together, and finally held it in place with a cable tie.
