Guest les-cumbria Posted October 31, 2008 Posted October 31, 2008 C3 Diesel 2004 - Got in the car tonight - weather freezing and drove less than half a mile - the temp gauge at this time would not even have reached the first bar BUT the top bar (red) lit up and it started to bleep - I did not need to go any further so not sure what would have happened - any ideas what it could be? techbod Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 any antifreeze in? coolant temp sensor failed? any oil in there? if all are ok then you have a big problem and it needs checking for fault codes Quote
Guest les-cumbria Posted November 1, 2008 Posted November 1, 2008 Thanks for that, had a run about today and all seems ok, will check out the list and see if there is anything obvious - strange though - it was halloween though ooooooohhhh Quote
paul.h Posted November 2, 2008 Posted November 2, 2008 It is possible it is just an electrical blip and may not happen again. Our 1.4 2003 petrol did this last year after a 60 mile M62 run and on the last 100 yards the temp went from normal to max in one jump. Did lots of checks and even bought a new thermostat and one of the temp sensors but it has not done it since so the bits are still in the box. It is still worth doing some checks though - try letting it idle until the fan comes on to see if the thermostat is faulty (stuck closed), see if the cabin heater is getting warmer, etc. Quote
Guest les-cumbria Posted November 3, 2008 Posted November 3, 2008 Thanks Paul tried that and the cabin heater heats up no problem - must be a glitch Quote
