dixie Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 hello all, i am a new member and this is my first post.i have 2 c5s (his and hers) mine is a 02 reg hdi 110 saloon, and my good lady has a 02 reg hdi 110 estate. the cv joint is knocking really bad on the estate, i have tried almost everywhere with no luck in getting one.most of the motorfactors can give me a price for one but cannot get one  citroen dont do a cv joint but will sell me a full driveshaft for £200. i have found a company that will do a recon unit if i tell them what gearbox is in the car, i think there are 2 different manual boxes fitted in that year. i phoned citroen and was told to take it to a dealer.on my saloon to get reverse you lift the coller and push the gearstick away and up.on the estate you pull it toward you and down. can anyone tell me what type is in the estate from that description and has anyone ever had a cv joint go and how did they replace it? genuine citroen or motor accessory dealers. any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks Alan. paul.h Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 Have you tried Euro car parts and German French and Swedish (GFS or GSF) - both have web sites. The French RTA manual lists the transmission ML5T 8LN85 or 8LN86 if it has an intermediate stage (Palier in French). I do not know what this means but it shows additional bits to remove. Quote
dixie Posted November 25, 2008 Author Posted November 25, 2008 thanks paul for the quick reply, i tried euro car parts this morning and they no longer stock them, and just phoned gsf with no joy. i have managed to find a company that will do a recon one but only the ML5T so f i can find out what gearbox is in the car i may be lucky.i have looked all over the gearbox and cant find any numbers on it, if anyone can tell me where to look or how to find out what box is in it that would be a big help. thanks again Alan. techbod Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 http://shop.ebay.co.uk/items/__citroen-cv-...idZm270Q2el1313 I don't know why the transmission would have anything to do with it they all use the same cv joint whether its manual/auto/estate/saloon apart from the ones that dont have ABS  Quote
paul.h Posted November 25, 2008 Posted November 25, 2008 In the RTA book the transmission is the drive shafts.Had another look in the manual and the different numbers are for the left and right drive shafts - for the 2.0 hdi ML5T gearbox the left shaft is 8LN85 and the right 8LN86. The ML5T gearbox in the 2.0hdi also appears to have the no. 20LE94, the 2.2 hdi is 20LE96 and the 3.0V6 is 20LE95. This may help. There is no info on the cv joints. In the RTA manual for the mark 2 C5 it shows the outer (wheel end) cv joints can be split like any others - it is held together by a split ring on the splined shaft and needs a sharp blow to separate it. To refit it shows using a jubilee clip around the ring when in place on the shaft and then inserting the shaft back into the joint. Here the cv joints are different diameters depending on engine type - 86 or 100mm. Quote
techbod Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 ^ now that bit I totally agree with as the 2.0 has more torque and that would mean a stronger drive shaft and cv joint to cope ( you cant fit a cv joint from a 1.6 to a 2.0 ), all the aftermarket places ive been to never asked for the tranny number they just need the age/ engine size/ and if petrol-diesel, dealer asked for the VIN number or number plate reg Quote
dixie Posted November 26, 2008 Author Posted November 26, 2008 thanks for the replys, citroen phoned about 4pm yesterday to let me know i have a ML5T gearbox so i phoned and let the factors know who ordered one and it was here at 10am this morning.it was a easy job, took about 1hr to fit. well chuffed.the difference in the 2 boxes is one has 24 splines on the abs the other has 48 (so citroen told me). now for the other niggles, after doing a search on here i found out the rear window on the estate opens  . well mine doesnt and it does not seem to be closed properly, i am scared to force it as it feels like it will shatter.am i correct in thinking the button is at the bottom back of the wiper mounting, and is it electric or mechanical, the reason i ask is the rear wiper does not work and i am hopeless at anything electrical. i have only had the estate about 2 months, i have had my saloon for 4 years and only had to change a number plate bulb for one of the mot's. great forum. thanks Alan. techbod Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 yep the splines would make the difference but they only needed the cars age and vin number to find that out but since that sorted its something to remember for future reference, back windows? as in door windows? or in the rear cabin like the boot area if they have opening windows then there should be a toggle either on that window or they are electronic and the basic problem with them as its an estate are the contacts on the door so you need to see if power is getting to them Quote
fatgut Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Yes it is an electric pushbutton under the wiper mounting, common fault to stop working apparently. When ours did at about 3 years old, was company car so dealer did it, but have seen a description of how to fix it either on this forum or the yahoo C5 forum,so keep looking! If you worked out how to get that blinking number plate bulb cover off I'm sure you can fix the tailgate glass!! Good luck. Quote
fatgut Posted November 26, 2008 Posted November 26, 2008 Ok, found it, it's in the yahoo C5 forum under 'Files' in the blue box top left of screen, in a pdf format and found a post that directed me to it in the normal part of the forum where they said this repair took them about 1 hour. I reckon even if you are rubbish at electrics, armed with this somebody will be able to help you out because it is very well explained with good photos. Hope I can remember where it is when/if it fails again on ours. Hope is of help, Paul. Quote
dixie Posted November 27, 2008 Author Posted November 27, 2008 cheers guys, who needs a haynes manual when we have you.fatgut is there any chance you can post a link to the yahoo forum, i cant find it every time i try it brings me back to here  .and yes it was a pain to change the numberplate bulb. cheers Alan.
