Hi,

I've previously owned a 2.0 HDI C5 (2001) model, and today was test driving a 2003 1.8 Petrol that my bf is thinking of buying.

Suspension wise it behaved as the HDI did when the car was unlocked, adjusting the suspension, but after taking it out and turning off the engine, it took a minute or so of adjusting the suspension, which stopped once the car was locked again.

It's a while since I had my HDI, and I can't remember if the suspension behaved in a similiar manner, I do remember that when I turned the engine off and before locking the car, that it would adjust, it just seemed today that the petrol one took a little longer. (Sorry, edited to add: I should that rather than getting out of the car and locking it as one would normally do, the bf switched off the engine and we were chatting in the car, whilst the suspension was adjusting, with the doors unlocked, unlike what you'd normally do of switching off the engine, getting out of the car and locking the doors  )

Driving it feels fine, and the buttons to adjust the suspension work fine. One point to note is that the car hadn't been driven over the past few days if that's of any relevance.

Many thanks in advance.

Our C5 does not take a minute or so adjusting its height when the engine is switched off. Any adjustments are usually one movement and that's it. In this month's Car Mechanics mag (Feb 2009) there is a letter where somebody has cleaned up/greased the height sensors/arms that fasten by ball joints to the front and rear anti roll bars to sort a similar problem. I think I have read on here something similar.

On another thread we had a lot of stuff about squirting height sensors/correctors as they have been reported by the RAC/AA as a common fault.

Do a search for corrector, if you don't find it post again and I'll look for it.

There were pictures of said sensors/correctors.

Thanks very much for both of your replies, the car was sent for the NCT (Irish MOT) yesterday, and it failed as the bump stops on the back were missing, and need to be replaced which is being done today.

I'll ask the garage to have a look at the correctors too, thanks
