OK, a bolt in the base of the drivers seat has sheared off causing the seat to collapse and is now being propped up by a sodding candle, the passenger side climate control when you turn the temp up it stays hot regardless of what you do until you start the car again providing you lower the temp just before turning the engine off, constant tyre pressure/airbag warnings, and constant 'top up washer fluid' when the things full, passenger side rear door wont open from outside, blown front speakers, boot opens when it decides to, just a generally shonky car considering its only done 77k with FSH, cant get red of it as its depreciated quicker than Northern Rock shares, utterly fed up with it, needs probably hundreds spending on it before I even think about the cambelt, and the money Ive already spent on other faults in the year Ive owned it

for the seat drill a new hole and fit a bolt going through the floor of the car and use a nylock bolt,

heater sounds like the blender is sticking,

rear door probably the plastic stop latch on the hinge worn picture would help here,

boot locking hinge needs resetting,

speakers well that happens mostly when over powered amps are added or with crap speakers,

water bottle sounds like a stuck level sensor,

airbag sounds like a loose wire under the driver seat very common,

tyre pressure sensor a pain in the butt and requires either new batteries fitted in the wheels ( tyre fitter job ) and they will reset them with the diagnostic tool

Driver's airbag can be a COM2000 problem.

Worth checking that the four reporting valves are actually on the wheels being used on the car.

Having a reporting valve on the spare often causes this problem, it can be cured by pumping the spare up!

I've got a C5 (06 reg) 2.0HDI 16V and use it as a taxi.

In the last couple of months I have replaced the particle filter, Clutch and flywheel, EGR valve and a heat exchanger for the turbo and now I need to replace the front suspension bushes and the rear axle bearings. I could have bought a good car for the money I have spent on it!

Though I can't think of a better car to taxi with as it has lots of excellent features.

I'm fitting the bushes and bearings myself but I have never fitted the rear axle bearings before. Can anyone give any tips?

Rear axle bushes are fairly straight forward to do and nothing to worry about what milage is on the car. and is it the dealer telling you all this or just a local garage

I'm in Northern Irerland where all Taxis are subject to a annual PSV check. This Year it failed on these two items. My local Citroen dealer has quoted £625 to replace both bushes and bearings.

I already have the parts and I am replacing these myself as the local dealership have recently left an inspection lamp in the engine bay and they replaced the EGR valve but forgot to tighten the steering rack after replacing the cradle. So I don't have a lot of faith in their quality control.

Well I agree , they are not so bad ... I havn't been on for ages cause my trusty c5 has been so good!!THAT'S done it now , will be tempting fate here .

When I bought it nearly 3 years ago the guys I work with were full of the usual ( oh dear a complex French car , you'll regret it stuff )

Apart from the rear brakes ( sorted with advice from you) .An exhaust from the internet , and a strange gear selection problem ( sorted by bleeding the clutch ) i've covered 35,000 trouble free miles.

Not bad for an 8 yo car with 80,000 on the clock. Compare that to a 3 yo Jag owner at work whose car lost power ,had to get a new EM system which cost him £1200 . A (BMW) mini owner whose electo steering pump failed another £1000 + bill.

All cars can be trouble , and I don't think the C5 is any worse than the rest.

Also when I drive some of the pool cars at work . Vectra's and Mondeo's mainly. Most are younger than my Citreon but don't feel as good on the road. You just can't beat that air/oil suspension , although I do agree that the C5 is no match for the BX / Xantia in the ride department , but it's streets ahead of a Vectra.

On another subject . I bought the Haynes Manual , anyone got any thoughts on this book??

On some procedures ,like the rear caliper removal I think this forum has better advice .

I was interested in the de-pressurising / bleed procedure for the suspension , doesn't seem to be so complicated according to Haynes , but the only time I would envisage needing to carry out this would be replacing spheres , and in my experience with Citroens in the past ,spheres last a long time

Although I've not contributed for a while I still visit and read the contributions and will reply If I think I can help . It's a worthwhile forum this and has been of great help to me in the past , and will be in the future no doubt as this run of luck is sure to come to an end sometime.

Happy motoring ...........
