crapday Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Hi, last years I blow a fuse on the accessory power point at the rear of the centre console. I could not find a blown fuse, so I left it because I could still use the cigar lighter point for my sat nav and ipod. Now that fuse has blown. Does anyone know where the fuse for these are ? I have looked in the fuse box in the glove box and the one in the engine bay with no lick. Could it be something other that a blown fuse ? has anyone else had this problem ? Cheers in advance. Where is the most likely place for the wires to burn out, if that where the case? Quote
Randombloke Posted February 27, 2009 Posted February 27, 2009 Tried different accessories in both the sockets but to no avail. Where is the most likely place for the wires to burn out, if that where the case? Be also worth asking if these sockets are affected by eco mode...... Have you got the Haynes or original owners manual from Citroen, these list the fuses? Otherwise you may need to post complete vehicle details here for us to give you the right numbers. There are 3 fuse boxes, one in the glove box, 2 in the engine, the engine ones have normal fuses and maxi fuses in two separate boxes. I would remove and buzz out the fuses with a continuity tester if in doubt. It's also worth checking the integrity of the sockets themselves, I had to replace one on my BX and suspect the same is due on the 406. Quote
DaveHerns Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 Maybe some of the things you can plug into the cigar lighter these days - eg 12v impact wrenches / inverters etc - are too much for the flimsy wiring ? Quote
iannez Posted March 1, 2009 Posted March 1, 2009 the fuse will burn out long before the wiring unless the wrong amp fuse is used. the wire will take at least 4x as many amps as the fuse in its circuit before it burns out.if a component used 14 guage wire the wire will take upto 20amps so no more than a 5amp fuse should be used making it impossibe for the wiring to burn out. so as long as the right fuse is used no matter what is plugged into the socket the worst that will happen is a fuse will blow. Thanks for the replies. I bought the Haynes manual and checked the fuses, they where all fine (every fuse). The wiring look good (what i could see). A spring fell in the the back accessory socked and melted, thats what stopped it working, but as the wiring and fuse are ok I don't know what to do next. I don't know what made the front cigar lighted stop working. Quote
