chrisrhondda Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Hi all think i got a big problem with my car its all come about since i got caught up in a big puddle last friday. Since then the car doesn wanna go at all its really sluggish like as if the turbo has been taken off. If i really hold the car flat it will go really slow picking up it wont even go up hills without dropping to 2nd or 3rd. But then sometimes if i just keep the accelerator down when driving when it hits about 3500 rpm it pulls like theres nothing wrong >>???? so i'm really confused now\ ??? as to what it could be. Look forward to hearing your suggestions ? :) Quote
paul.h Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 Wet air filter restricting air flow ? Wet electrical components/connections ? A hair dryer may come in useful. Did the engine cut out in the puddle ? Quote
Randombloke Posted November 18, 2009 Posted November 18, 2009 I would have a quick look at the MAF sensor - takes all of 60 seconds to take it off the car. I'd also check to see that there isn't any water in the joint where this plugs into the vehicle loom. Is there a Service Light? Or any diagnostic warning? Quote

Check your MAF sensor, on the pipe coming off the top of the filter housing with a multiplug. I had the self same issue, got a new one from ebay, worked like a dream since. Also drilled a 10mm hole in the bottom of the cone on the dirty side of the filter housing to allow the water to drain should it pick any more up... Hope that helps. Quote
chrisrhondda Posted November 24, 2009 Author Posted November 24, 2009 Hi all thanks for your replys just to update you so far? 1. The car didnt cut out.I did check the air filter and it was soaking. I have since replaced the filter with a new one and its still the same its really hesitating till you get to around 3,000 rpm then all of a sudden the powers there. 3. How do i check the maf sensor to see if its working or not ? 4.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Air-flow-mass-meter-MAF-sensor-Citroen-C5-C8-HDi_W0QQitemZ280387172779QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_CarsParts_Vehicles_CarParts_SM?hash=item414860b9abIs this what i should be looking for ? :) Quote
Randombloke Posted November 24, 2009 Posted November 24, 2009 3. How do i check the maf sensor to see if its working or not ? Your link definitely shows the MAF. I was very careful not to damage mine but cleaned it with some electronic solvent type cleaner. It made no difference so I changed it out - car went better. Firstly check that there is no water in the connectors. Check that there is nothing stuck on the MAF element but only look - do not touch it or you can break it. The MAF is a form of hot wire type sensor, so simply examine it to see if there is anything stuck to it that shouldn't be, but I would use compressed air or spray to clean it, not tissue in your hands, then having done all that take it out for a run and see if the problem has gone. iannez Posted November 25, 2009 Posted November 25, 2009 hate to say it mate but sounds like you have pulled water up into one of your cylinders and bent a con-rod. if everything else fails you will have to remove the head and make sure all your pistons are flush with the top of the head when there top dead centre. hope i'mm wrong so make sure you double check everything else first and only have this done as a last resort.
