Johndouglas Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 Just a year ago I renewed the sidelight bulbs on my C5. Already one of them has blown again. Faced with another mornings work removing the front bumper and light units, I decided to fit LED 433C's. These ones - a bit pricy but hopefully they will last a long time.http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vie...%3D1&_rdc=1 Last night after it got dark, I went out to try them. They look good, but after I switched off, they continued glowing. Not at full brightness but enough to worry me about what it would do to the battery. I left them glowing but looked ten minutes later and all was dark. Why should they do that? Quote
coastline taxis Posted April 22, 2010 Posted April 22, 2010 John is yours the model where the lights turn on themselves in the dark. If so i seem to remember something about switchn the system off with a diagnostic first then putting the bulbs in then switching the system back on. Will check at work and get back to you unless you google it first. Anybody got any ideas what was wrong with the site then Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 22, 2010 Author Posted April 22, 2010 John is yours the model where the lights turn on themselves in the dark. It is - but it has always been slow to turn on as evening approaches and slow to turn off after dawn. But OK when going through tunnels. Quote

Could it be some residual current as my rear high level brake light does the same- glows dimly for a while when the car is left ?I was thinking of doing the same as my N/S sidelight failed this week - these H6 bulbs last me no more than a year Quote
Johndouglas Posted April 23, 2010 Author Posted April 23, 2010 Could it be some residual current You've got it in one Dave. I mentioned it on another forum and a guy pointed me towards this:-http://www.ledtronics.com/TechNotes/FaqsDetail.aspx?id=9 Quote
DaveHerns Posted May 2, 2010 Posted May 2, 2010 Do you think they are as bright as the 6 watt halogen bulbs ? Quote
Johndouglas Posted May 3, 2010 Author Posted May 3, 2010 Do you think they are as bright as the 6 watt halogen bulbs ? I hadn't really considered. I always keep the lights on auto so when the sidelights are on, the dipped beams are on as well. Quote

Johndouglas Posted May 7, 2010 Author Posted May 7, 2010 You've just had an MOT haven't you ? Yes! They didn't comment on them. Thought they would notice the residual light after they were switched off, but they didn't. Talking of MOTs - I've got the third of our four cars booked for Monday morning. Been busy fitting new brake cables on the Pug since it got an advisory last year. Fingers crossed. Quote

As long as they work when required to I don't think the MOT cares if they are on all the time. Quote
