Hi Paul

The fault lights come on immediately on starting the engine but sometimes shortly afterwards but interestingly we have had some very frosty weather the past few mornings and the fault lights take a few minutes to come on. I had the front pads changed recently and in one of my previous postings I said that whatever the mechanic did - I have NO handbrake at all - it is completely loose and am unable to use the car at present - would I be able to re-install the front pads and fix that problem?

regards Alister

TAKE IT BACK TO THE MECHANIC AND TELL HIM TO PUT IT RIGHT. Ask him did he wind the calipers back correctly and in oposite directions and did he conect the handbrake cables if hes had them off. getting back to the lights you need to be a bit more informative with your posting otherwise youl get the wrong answers.

please answer the following

year/model

were the lights on before you got the pads replaced

did you get the right pads

are the brakes working

what did the mechanic say about handbrake not working

Again if you just answer yes/no to the questions then chances are you wont get a answer so put in as much detail as you can

Alipatch,

just had a look back at your previous posts, did you sort the auto gearbox problem ? Where are you located, for future work, somebody may be able to recommend a garage if you have found your mechanic is not familiar with the C5 to the extent you were left without a handbrake which may also question the competance of the person. The handbrake works on the front brakes so as Coastline has pointed out, maybe the mechanic did not refit the cables when the front pads were replaced or damaged the calipers by not winding the pistons back in properly. You could have a look yourself to see if the cables have been hooked back on to the levers on the calipers. If you do not want to go under the car, you may be able to see this by raising the car to full height and putting onto full steering lock each way.
