coastline taxis Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Hi have you got power to the hazzards and the interior light and the constant 12 supply between the seats Quote
Guest Pitchfork Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Yes, everything works except the ability to start itNone of the dashboard lights come on & it will not turnoverI am beginning to suspect the Immobiliser is the cause Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Imobiliser would put the ignition on but wouldnt let the engine turn over. maybe check the ignition barrel also did the aa pull the fuse box out and check the maxi fuses which arnt visable from the top of the fuse box as these will stop the ignition coming on. do you have auxilry power when you move the key 1 click. Have you tested the battery as the weather weve had recently would test a good battery Quote
Guest Pitchfork Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 AA pulled out fuse box & tested all fuses & Battery condition (my first thought was that the cold may have killed batteryI do not get anything on the dashboard as well as no ability to turn engine overHave auxillary power as normal Quote
coastline taxis Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Possibly a ignition barrel fault?. just a daft 1 can you see the all the wires are on the battery leads. thik youl not find out till its pluged in but please post on hear what the fault was Quote
Guest Pitchfork Posted November 27, 2010 Posted November 27, 2010 Finally got it to the local Citroen garage this morning - sorry sir, we cannot look at it until next week, but we'll call you to let you know what th e problem isWhen I find out I shall share it with the forum (& also the cost which I anticipate will not be cheap) Quote
Guest Pitchfork Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 To start off Citroen garage could not find a fault "would I like to collect it?" -err but it will not start are you not supposed to be experts in these matters? Now they call back today & have identified problem as the BSI whoch is the system communications interfaceNo they don't have one in stock & will have to order itThe cost - that will be £430.19 including labour & VAT - should we proceed? On the basis that as it stands it's a pile of scrap metal with wheels on it "what do you think I should do" I replied! :D Look out for next instalment assuming they are correct in their diagnosis  Quote
paul.h Posted November 30, 2010 Posted November 30, 2010 Was the car bought from a dealer and hence with a warranty to cover the costs ?We had something that sounds very similar with our Xsara Picasso and that turned out to be a hidden maxi fuse that had blown but I guess your dealer has checked all of these on your car. No reason found and it never happened again but I kept a spare one in the car after this. The RAC did not find this fuse and towed the car to the dealer. Quote
Guest Pitchfork Posted December 1, 2010 Posted December 1, 2010 I have my car back & am £430.19 poorer for the experience of buying the wretched thingThe following was found by my son & may serve to help anyone wanting to buy a used BSI unit to save money: Some facts you need to know before you bid on a Peugeot / Citroen BSI unit from Ebay. These units can only be coded ONCE to the original vehicle it was fitted to at the factory, once an attempt is made at coding a BSI that's it, you don't get a second chance! second hand BSI units are total useless on their own. For a second hand BSI to work you also need the matching transponder immobiliser keys & the engine ecu plus the radio will need to be re coded, a lot of sellers forget to tell you this until after you have bought a used unit of them. The BSI unit also stores the radio & immobiliser security codes inside plus the VIN number, unless everything matches up the engine isn't going to run & the radio will keep beeping, having the wrong VIN number can give problems if the vehicle is ever checked by the Police or if its plugged in at a Peugeot / Citroen dealer as it will download incorrect updates. There are plenty of brand new boxed BSI units to bid on or BBA Reman can also test / repair your original BSI unit with a 2 year warranty as well. If your having problems with a multiplexed Peugeot / Citroen BSI unit then try the following in this order: 1) BSI rebootPut the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.Remove key open & close door test central locking system.Start the engine and complete the system's check.Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect BSI operation. 2) BSI software update, take the vehicle to the local Peugeot / Citroen dealer with ALL the key's & have the BSI software updated. 3) Send the BSI to BBA for test / repair. Needing a new BSI unit is a last resort & if you are really unlucky enough to need one just make sure its a brand new one that hasnt already been coded. Be very carefull on what you bid on. Quote

Be very carefull on what you bid on.I have had a quotation from BBA-Reman for the inspection/repair of the BSI unit:Testing £35.00If faulty (which Citroen say it is) & repairable £100 Both exclude shipping & VATSo the total inclusive cost if repairable would be in the order of £190 whereas the new one was £240.53. If the data content had to be erased in order to repair it, would Citroen be prepared to fit it & programme it to the car?- somehow I doubt it Quote
