Guest POSc5 Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hi I have just brought the above. I have decided to give it a full service, and in doing so, managed to snap the out let pipe from the fuel filter. After much swearing, I decided to pack up, and carry on tomorrow. I went to close the drivers window with the fob, and nothing. So I turned the ignition on and dumped about a £10 worth of diesel on the drive, the removed the fuel pump fuse. The interior lights don't come on, only the front foot wells illuminate, and no window work.So I disconected the battery and gave it a minute, then tried again and nothing. The dash lights up (ignition on, headlights on), but not the air con controls. Then the display told me it had gone in to limp home mode. Please help, as to day I have... Refitted the poorly fitted front bumper, Taken the boot apart to get the rear screen to open, discovered that the switch and a cable had failed. The rear washer feed pipe was delibratly blocked by a ball bearing?!?! and it's blocked else where too. That some one has tried to lever the high level brake light out at some point and has broken its mountings in the rear spoiler. The headlight washers don't work, but I think this may because the fuse has blown. There is a wire coming from the tell tale pick upr on the alternator, that goes to a massive relay that has battery feed and a load of other pins, does not look O.E. any ideas?Oh, the Air Con doesn't work, and I have found one of the pipes from the compressor is loose and wobbly. I have removed it, and can't see anything immeaditly wrong with it?!? This has not been the best introduction into large citroen's, I brought it because it was big and safe, and cheep. I knew that I would have some faults to fix (it's a citroen after all) but, c'mon, it's not supposed to cause a nervous break down after a day is it? Thank you Mark Quote
Guest womble Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 You could always take up knitting as a less stressful hobby B)  Re the wiring from alternator, has the vehicle been used for towing at some point and is the relay a split charge relay or some sort of isolating relay??? Re rear screen wash, you may find that the ball bearing is there intentionally as a basic one-way-valve to prevent drain-back of screenwash fluid, are you sure that the system is not frozen up somewhere??? Not the best of starts, following on from someone elses bodged up attempts at repairs, often you don't know what you got until you've got it!!! Good luck re your other problems, Happy motoring Quote
paul.h Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Whilst doing the service the car may have gone into eco mode - after about 15 mins or more, the car will stop electrical stuff such as radio/internal lights/etc to prevent the battery going flat. You need to switch on the ignition to reset this - all the Citroens we have do this, not just the C5 and Peugeots may be the same. If the internal light still does not come on then either try the switches on it in case it has been switched off for when the doors are opened or maybe the bulb needs replacing. There is a set procedure for disconnecting the battery which is in the car handbook and also on this forum somewhere. Towbars normally have the relays in the boot area with a feed direct from the battery unless a Citroen wiring kit is used. It then connects to the towbar socket and the rear lighting wiring. Limp mode may be due to spilling the fuel - try again when the filter is sorted. If the air con pipe is loose (and then you removed it) then the refrigerant has been lost so it will not work. Did the window work before the service ? Quote
Randombloke Posted January 2, 2011 Posted January 2, 2011 Hi Mark, It is always worth searching this and the other forum for problems or advice before doing things. There is a PDF with the detailed instructions and photos as to how to fix the rear screen problem. All you need to do is ask any of the people who have offered to mail it to anyone needing it. The headlight washers only work if the headlights are on.Disconnecting the battery without following the procedure is asking for trouble. If you intend to DIY this car it's worth having the Haynes manual or the RTA manual if you have any knowledge of French. If you get the PDF on the rear screen it shows the fixings for the high level brake light and what to undo. If you compare a similar VW Passat and a C5 they have similar new prices but at 4 years/80,000miles the Passat will be worth double the C5. Big Citroens depreciate badly for a good reason, no one wants them (or any any other large PSA car like a 605/607, 407, Xantia or XM). It's cheap for a reason. When it's running, especially if it has the H3+ suspension (optional extra or Exclusive/SE) it's got lovely ride and fantastic handling. On all except 1.6 versions the car cruises very quietly at high speeds. The 2.2 also has a particulate filter and it would be as well to know the implications of this before it needs filter replacement or Eolys top up. There is an official route and a more radical unofficial route, but doing nothing is not an option. Quote
