Email meHi All,

My first time on this site and Hopeing that someone can help.

My Citreon C5 2.2 Hdi Estate Auto 2001 has several electrical problems.

Going back to the middle of last year My Speedo packed up, on taking it to my local Auto electrician he said that he could wire it so that the Speedo worked but then this would stop the Rev counter from working.Taking the cheapest option as I intend (because of the problems)to sell it in the near future, this is what he did, telling me that to solve the issue the car would need what he tells me is a Dash Pack, needless to say I have not been able to find one second hand (forget a new unit the price I would imagine would be asrtonomical). At least the vehicle is now legal.

Going on from there, I now have further problems, The temp gauge does not work, stuck showing temperature normal.

The Radio does not work, it shows in the panel but no volume, I have checked the Mute, all ok.The top display panel for radio/clock/time etc. illumination out.Heater blowers not working along with other niggling problems.

The question here is: Is therea common denominator here or are they(God forbid)seperate issues.

Your help and or guidance here would be most appreciated.

PS Does anyone want to buy a cheap C5, it runs very well and has 118.000 miles on the clock (just run in)

Kind regards

the problems you have listed are nothing at all and can be fixed by yourself for under a hundred quid, Only thing that confuses me is the cold wiring that the auto lecy has done what does he mean by cold wiring you just need 2 swap the 2 motors on the back round and there just push fits

Thanks so much for coming back with the advice, I was told that the electrician had to rewire it, now sounds iffy to me, had my doubts about that guy from the beginning.

If I were to attempt these jobs myself, could I ask kindly if you could guide me through the procedures.

I.E.

How do I remove the speedo/rev counter facia??

How do I remove the top display panel to replace the bulb for illumination of Radio/clock/time display???

Many thanks for your help

Kind Regards

Haynes do a manual for the C5 which you should find useful. Does not cover the 2.2 hdi engine but everything else is the same.

To remove both - slide a credit card or similar under the lower edge to release the clips and then pull the lower edge forward. On the speedo the 2 clips are below 2 dimples.

The dashboard

if you look at the bottom of the dash youl see 2 small holes if you use 2 credit cards or similar and push them into the seam where the dash cluster meets the dashboard and youl feel them click the dash will then just pull out from the bottom upover. manouvre the dash out and youl see a multiplug connection push the top down and slide the black plastic bar back and the conection will come away. Next jockey the dashboad out past the steering wheel you can help it along by lowering and pulling the steering wheel towards you.

With the dash out youl see a black cover on the back with white clips around the outside you just push these in and pull the black part away youl see how easy it is once youve got the dash out. Next turn the dash over and do the same with the clear front part of the dash. once youve done that pull both the rev and spedo pointers off. on the back of the dash youl see 2 white/clear motors Held in with 2 white plastic prongs ********** DO NOT*********** bend these they snap look closley where rhe motor meets the prongs and gently prise them outover while pulling the motor upover, Swap them round with each other or replace the broken one.

Puting it back together

Just push everything together and it will just clip together but before you do you need to set the pointers up corectly to do this put the multiplug back into the dashboard and switch the ignition on then push the pointers on. Take dash back out and reasemble and put back in the whole job sounds a lot but only takes about 15 mins to do.

Center display

This just pulls out but its a little pig to pull out. We use 2 right angled picks any way whatever you decide to use do the following

where the display meets the ovalish plastic display put whatever your using into the seem of where they meet and just pull out over and it will just come away. Youl see 2 torx screws either side of the display remove these and the display just come away. Again remove the multi plug and turn the display over and youl see three twist in bulb holder remove these with pointy nose pliers and replase the bulbs and reasemble. When your puting the plastic surround back into place make sure that the bulb on the right hand side (for the trafic master) is in place as it some times falls out. Again sounds hard but isnt 10 15 mins tops

There are three bulbs in this display, so if the illimination is out and the radio isn't working, very unlikely to be all 3 bulbs. Check the fuse marked "navigation system" in the handbook ( it's in the glovebox). This protects the radio and centre display

Thank you so much for your invaluable guidance re.my Citreon C5.

I was to the point of disposing of the vehicle but now have the incentive to at least attempt to fix the problems.

Once again many thanks
