Guest TigerTim Posted January 12, 2011 Posted January 12, 2011 Hi All, My first posting on here so I hope someone can help. I have a 2005 C5 2.0HDI with 62K miles for the past year with no issues. About 2 months ago, I started having starting problems when the engine is warm. This is what happens. Starts perfectly when cold or when hot but can be slow to start when just warm. Car starts perfectly in the morning, drive the kids 2 miles to school, come out of the school & the car turns over but does not start immediately but does start after about 20 seconds of turning over. Then I have errors relating to particulate filter. Sometimes I see presence of water in Diesel filter but I have drained the filter. Strange thing is that I had absolutely no issues while the weather was icy/freezing around Christmas. It has started again since the temperatures have gone up. I was using a work-around for a while which seemed to work but when I tried it today, the C5 still failed to start. This appeared to work for a while - turn on key but don't start, do this 3 times & start on the third go. This appeared to work but could be a coincidence. Anyone come across this before. Many Thanks, Tim Quote
Guest TigerTim Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Anyone got any ideas. My mechanic is going to look at it on Wed & check the codes. Has been perfect for the past 5 days again. Tim Quote
coastline taxis Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 By turning the key on and of a few times and it will then start straight away. What your doing there is priming the diesel system and expelling any air in it. So your problem is fuel related so you need to check for loose/leaking/broken seals on the fuel lines also check the fuel filter housing for breaks/seal damage akd lastly gheck the spill return pipes on the injectors Quote
Guest TigerTim Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 Thanks, Coastline. Will take a look. After reading thru' other posts, I've been trying the 7 second trick - turn on key & leave for 7 seconds before starting. Also seems to be working. Occasionally get a flash of water in diesel filter so will check filter & housing. Thanks. Tim Quote
paul.h Posted January 17, 2011 Posted January 17, 2011 If you are getting water in your diesel fuel tank you need to beware of biological growth of jelly - coastline did a lot of work on this last year when a customer had a problem with a van. Make sure the filler cap is a good seal. Quote
Guest TigerTim Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Hi All, My mechanic pulled the codes today. The following 3 showed up IF 2D 21 37IF 2D 5 62Fault Capacitor 1 Voltage Any ideas if any of them could be linked to my poor starting when warm. Tim Quote
coastline taxis Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 Still learning about diagnostics so i might be wrong but they dont look like the fault codes we get. What tool/machine did he use to get them with Quote
paul.h Posted January 27, 2011 Posted January 27, 2011 If you mean P2137 (a more normal format for a fault code - P followed by 4 numbers) then a google search gave this: P2137 EDC16C3 - Accelerator pedal 1, signal consistency with pedal 2 signal Quote
Guest TigerTim Posted January 28, 2011 Posted January 28, 2011 Thanks for the replies. Not sure what the Mechanic is using to get the codes. He wrote down the codes I posted & left them in the car. Will check with him again. Tim Quote
