Hi,

My C5, 250000 miles (taxi) seems to have a mind of its own.

The problem varies. Sometimes everything seems ok but sometimes the ride goes really hard, or the nose will dip or the rear will rise or dip while yr just driving along.

It recently had a leaking pipe which leaked all the fluid out, this has been fixed and filled up. The erratic behaviour occured before this and has continued just the same. Could this be something simple??!! Can always hope!!

Any help greatly appreciated.

Could be the height sensors at the front and back need spraying with WD40 or similar to free them up. Seems to be a common problem and there are a few posts on here about it.

I had similar symptoms along with a creaking sound at the rear which turned out to be the rear arm bearings and the rear arms themselves in the end.

Here is the detail on what it turned out to be.

Sounds like the rear arm bearings. You want to get them sorted asap if it is this as damage can be caused to rear arm itself and if this needs replacing as well then it gets really expensive. Parts cost about £100 per side from Citroen, as far as I know you can't get them anywhere else although they do sometimes pop up on places like eBay if bought and not used. Its a couple of hours per side to change them and when you do the ride is back like a dream again. When the car is at rest check the back wheels, if they are toeing out then this is the problem, if it's noticeable then they are shot and sort them asap otherwise it will turn out expensive!!
