iannez Posted December 5, 2007 Posted December 5, 2007 look on the calliper housing down the side of the cylinder and you will see a raised line. now look on the end of the piston and you will see a cut out. line the cut out up with the line and they should fit over. Quote

Done that! Quote
raymond Posted December 16, 2007 Posted December 16, 2007 Can anyone on here help please ?Fitting new disc`s & pads front 2ltr HDi but can`t get piston back far enough to fit the new pads   Hi, I have a 2002 C5 and I have replaced my front brake pads recently, what you need to do is you must screw back the piston with a special tool or worst case with a strong long nose plier till you get enough clearance for the new pads to be sitted in. Remember that there are 2 different rotation to screw in the piston, left brake piston is CW and the other CCW. Very important for C5 with ABS system that during the screwing in of the piston, make sure that you loosen the bleeding nipple so that excess brake fluid do not back flow through the valves in the system. Tighten when it is done and top up brake fluid. Have fun.... Quote
C 5 Estate Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Summer is coming and so am looking forward to getting a few jobs done on my 2006 C5 Estate. Re the previous Gents mention of CW & CCW, may I interpret this as passenger side-Right hand Thread, and drivers side-Left hand Thread. (for a right hand drive car I hasten to add) Tim Quote
Parkesie Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Cw ccw he is referring to clock wise counter clockwise so yup youve got it right. Quote
paul.h Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 On the C5 Problems and Fixes section there are pinned posts on the C5 (to 2008 model) brakes which should help. Quote
coastline taxis Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 ok just to make things easier for people changing brake pads do the following. romove both bolts on the caliper and turn it upside down and youl see the piston in the caliper. look at 12 oclock on the piston and just past the rubber dust seal on the casing there is a arrow ( a good wire brushing will reveal it) indicating which way to turn the piston. Also next to the arrow is a straight line again line this up with any of the cutouts in the brake piston and the pads will fit perfect Quote
C 5 Estate Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 Thanks to you all of you for the advice. I didn't twig the CW/CCW bit, which in hindsight was obvious. Am getting the service box from Easydiognostics as bedtime reading prior to dusting off the spanners. Tim Quote
qman3428 Posted April 3, 2014 Posted April 3, 2014 I once had an apprentice who told me he didn't know which way was clockwise because he had a digital watch. I told him my job was to educate him and he now considers himself educated. Wonderful what can be achieve with a clip round the ear! Quote
