completley agree with you wozza, no point in a non turbo diesel, but dont forget that the turbo works from about 1900rpm in the 2.0 diesel so its similar revs to the petrol. Must admit i did like the mr2, sounds bloody brilliant with the roof off for a car with 91k on the clock, didnt mind being redlined at all! hmm maybe need a sportscar next?
-
Financially diesel doesnt make sense but you have to choose a car depending on where you driv e. I have been using my parents Toyota mr2 gt tbar, 168bhp for the last two weeks and it sounds great and CAN go like the clappers but you have to be high up the rev range. Great fun if you have national speed limit country roads, crap if you live in london with speed cameras. Got back into my c4 2.0 hdi vts today and for day to day driving it is much more useable. Diesel for citys and motorways, petrol for country roads. Done.

Are 3 Door Hatches Safe For Rear Passengers?
sammys hdi vts replied to fuelguage's topic in C4 - Technical
well i have the 3 door version and i regularly chuck my 93 year old granddad in the back so dont think its too much of a problem!!!! -
I bought the new Navman icn 530 and its great. It picks up a signal indoors and in the car in under a minute, creates a new route if you make a wrong turn, comes with the whole of europe inclided on cd, (need a £20 1gb sd card to load them on) clear screen, quick buttons for the nearst petrol station and car park, and its touch screen, i love it. Picked it up on offer rom the navman store for £209 a month ago!

Now I like that kit wozza! It looks as if it was designed to fit the car rather than added on afterwards. Only niggles I can see are the lack of rear spoiler, schoolboy errror, the normal vts spoiler would suffice. I would also like to see the side rub strips either the smae colour or chromed or somethin!

just re did my photo as it was too big, looks much better now

im still not convinced with any of the body kits, they lose the flowing lines of the car. Ill ask a couple of my copper mates if they know the law on the interior footwell lights
-
Ebuyer, blue cold cathode Wozza I have ordered some of these for my computer and another set to play with, I'm tempted to put them in the footwells as they run off a 12v supply, so a car battery! Read the reviews, several guys have done it, got to check they dont make it look cheap but they come with a switch so you can switch them off when you pick up the grandparents! Plus they are only £3 for a pair of 12" tubes, bargin!

got my original invoice here, spolier was £288 inc vat and free installation from the dealer however I got it bundled in free with the car when I bought it new with the no VAT offer in June 05.

agree with you there, i went from a 1.2 60bhp petrol fiat punto to a 138bhp turbo diesel, got caught out several times at the start with turbo lag, put my foot down to accelerate, nothing, then small brown stains appeared in my pants when the turbo spooled up and the traffic ahead was approaching far too quick! for me i was pleased to have th c4's sharp brakes!

You have to test drive these cars and decide what you really want from your car. Neither of the C4 VTS cars are in the current HOT hatch territory, new civic typre r, focus st, golf gti etc are all pumping around 200bhp or more, on top of that the C4 is heavy. If you want a zippy hot hatch go for something else. If you can cope with a lukewarm hatch that looks completely different then maybe the C4 is for you. If you are used to driving a petrol car then a diesel is very different particualarly the 2.0 hdi, you need to short shift to get the most out of the torque band, 2000-3500 rpm. But for normally driving its brilliant, no revs needed and bam your gone, gives a massive thrust in your back, plus its great if you drive on motorways 6th gear and pulls well at 90 plus, got 50.5mpg over a 800 mile trip london to the lakedistrict, aircon and cruise control set to 85ish. You have to test drive the car, ps, petrol vts only has a 5 speed box! Last point, the only difference between a petrol and diesel is the rear bumper, petrol has a chrome tailpipe, diesel has a concealed exhaust.

wicked worked this time, just needed a decent web space, thanks to Ciaran who I think used photobucket which I saw in the url so I went there and now im happy.

anyone found out if the visual display is on the front and rear sensor cars only?
-
sorry about the delay still in the lake district, lovely up here! Celtic told me that angel tuning had very basic kit in comparison. They both had a handheld unit that connects direct to the ecu but celtic then had a laptop and another unit as well. the celtic tuning lad was running a modded fiat diesel, normally 115bhp and it was running at 170bhp sounded smooth, the guy, sam, said he did 10000 miles a month, not a typo! and he had no probs. doesnt matter what company you go with cos no one has the equipment to do the 2.0lt hdi yet. Still wouldnt mind a 180bhp diesel, dont forget that you can test drive the car and tell the remapper to change the settings to suit your requirements. Hope this changes your mind.
-
said it was a modification, they asked if it inceased power I said yes, they said by what what percentage, they then have some tick boxes on their screen, up to 10%, 11-25%, 26% to 50% etc. so a 138bhp to 180bhp is about 25%. and I got hit, like I said there was a £5 difference between a £180bhp diesel and a 180bhp petrol. I like to play it safe Wozza, dont want to find the need to claim then get told I'm uninsured due to withheld modifications!
-
first thing is no the visual display didnt work, they couldnt find an option to switch on. second look in the manual on parking sensors and the diaplayed car has front and rear parking sensors so they might not have been lying. Third rubbish!!!!! did mine on monday. order the part 9706ag comes up on the service depts screen as an mp3 player connector. It can be enabled, ignore the instructions that come with the cable they are wrong!!!!! you need to follow the Italians wiring, again on the forum, but think it was red in pin 4 white in pin 10 and black in 11. ps I installed the cable and abbey citroen in redhill didnt charge me for enabling the socket, nice.

Bad news for any 2.0 hdi owners wanting to do tune their car. basically can't be done- YET! Had the guy from celtic tuning over today, (Wozza I had an interesting conversation with him about angel tuning!), couldn't get his laptop to connect up to the ecu. Only way he could have done it was direct to the ecu but that meant removing the whole unit and Citroen has built a tamper proof cage around the ecu so it would have been obvious at the next service and my warranty would have evaporated on the spot. He is going to get some new kit in a couple of months so will let me know then if it can be done. P.s. Anyone thinking about it its expensive on the insurance!!!! Had a quote for £616 fully comp with parents, 24year old 3 yrs no claims clean licence for the car bog standard. went up to £920 with the chip and that was £100 cheaper than the next cheapest quote, went up to £1800 in some places or unwilling to quote. Interesting to find out that effectively the quote is the same for a chipped 25% increase diesel as the 180bhp petrol. Power not the chip increases the cost. (pps diesel is a group 45/90 ish and the petrol 73/90 for the insurance companies!)
-
I saw that in the manual as well, doesnt happen on my car, bit embarresed to keep going back to the dealer saying can you switch this that and the other one on, been in twice this week, once for the aux in and once to try and get the parking sensors as a visual display!
-
just been to my dealer to see if they can switch the visual warning on and they spent and hour doing it, even though I gave them the info about what menu to look in. After phoning citroen technical they finally gave up as Citroen says theat the feature is only available to cars with front AND rear sensors. Is this true, do those of you that have the visual display have front sensors?
-
Yeah I had this problem last summer after I bought the car. V annoying and quite dangerous when you go to look and you cant see! I went back to my dealer told them the problem and they replaced the whole rear view mirror for free. Now its fine, doesnt droop at all. Car read 42C when I got in it today so think you'll find it was a bad batch of mirrors. Go and see your dealer.
-
Right went and had a look under the bonnet and I have the siemens ecu which means I am supposed to send it to Angel in scotland! cant see that happening, may contact chiptuning uk and see if I can pop in to them on my way up to the lake district later this month damn
-
no havent looked yet, really busy at work as Im a teacher and its end of term time, off on holiday for two weeks then I will try and sort something out for the summer months. Angel is a good 400 miles away vs celtic which are more like 150 miles as they are in cornwall i think
-
wozza here is the bit from the email t really depends on what ECU you have on your car as to what we can do. A lot of the newer 2.0HDi have Seimens ECU's which we can only do in the workshop in Scotland (i.e. you will have to send the ECU to us). If it has the Bosch ECU, we may be able to reprogram it in Croydon, its likely to be EDC16, the same as the 1.6 and 1.4 HDi's if it is Bosch - which we do (and we run a 1.4 as well). We have extensive experience of the HDi's engines, and extensive experience of the EDC16 ECU's - but not the combination on the C4. Having said that though, the ECU side of it is only the communications side, the actual mapping is the key element obviously and that's the important bit!
-
oh forgot about the warranty, yeah it buggers it! Citroen wont cover any parts that break that can be directly linked back to the ecu remap. eg, if rear wiper breaks then fine, if driveshaft goes due to excessive torque then screwed. I however figure that you only live once and I dont intend to take mine above the 180bhp that most remap companies suggest. I think it takes about 5% - 10% off the engine life however they are good for 250000 plus if driven carefully and as I have done 5.5k in a year it doesnt seem like I am going to reach that target soon!
