  1. My C4 (VTR+) effectively already has the controls on the RD4 duplicated on the steering wheel boss, so replacing the radio made no real difference. I've heard about owners of SXs &c. having to refit the original radio so as the adjust the clock, for summer time, for example. I don't know if the additional controls can be fitted later, but all things are possible. I know it will be more than matter of just adding and connecting the switches and wheels, assuming you can get them; it will all need to be enabled via the Citroën dealer's secret software.
  2. Very much so. You won't get far without a laptop with the Citroën software which connects via the interface under ashtray. It's needed, for example, just to activate the auxillary inputs on the radio. With most radios, you'd expect just to plug the cable in and it would be live and active. Not so with the "alive with technology" C4! See these fitting instructions.

    And SWMBO's sister's wedding… :(
  4. You may thinks so, I couldn't possibly comment. http://www.tipmaster.com/images/neutral.gif
  5. I hired a big Buick in the US with something like a 3.8 litre V6 and was surprised how economical it was. I read the driver's guide, and it seemed it had a sophisticated fuel control system which would shut off fuel to up to 4 cylinders, according to the power needed, so as to minimise fuel consumption. So driving carefully paid off, but the moment the pedal was floored, consumption increased frighteningly. It's the only way with these inherently thirsty engines.
  6. I've never fully understood the finer points of particulate emissions regs. It seems trucks can spew out more or less what they like, but a refined and economcal family car emitting less CO2 than its petrol sister is unacceptable. Iechyd da!
  7. It could be loose wheel nuts, binding brakes or a faulty tyre, but tyre pressure is the starting point.
  8. I'm booked in for a week in August on the Isle of Harris, near Leverburgh, via Carbost and the Talisker Distillery. We're going in the C4, and if there's loads of cheap wiper blades, I'll fill the boot and import them!
  9. Agreed.
  10. I did - I'm confirming and showing the evidence why you need to get one. Every gallon of fuel will give you at least another 10 miles. And if diesel's cheaper than unleaded, you win on both counts. I'm not sure on the particulate issue, though I do know the diesel emits less CO2 than the petrol, 'cos I pay a lower rate of road tax. The EGS auto version has the particulate filter, but the manual doesn't - I think I've got that right.
  11. Mine disintegrated similarly after 24,000 mi/18 months about a month ago. My local Halfrauds didn't have any and the oik said they couldn't order any because they weren't on his computer nor in the book. So they must be a new stock item for Halfrauds. Price seems OK, especially if they are Bosch aero-twins or Valeos. If anyone is going to France this summer, it might be profitable to buy a couple of dozen sets in InterMarché or Carrefour to sell on to owners as they're certain to be cheaper over there..
  12. Simscar, you need to get a diesel. http://c4owners.co.uk/files/public/1183041684_82_FT7185_mpg280607_.jpg And that's yer average motoring in a 6cv (110HP) 1.6HD VTR+i; no long distance cruising there.
  13. I pretty sure Olive Green has been deleted. I saw one once - it looked like they'd used spare paint from Land Rover. Awful colour.
  14. Yes you can replace Citroën's Blaupunkt RD4 with a unit of your own choice. First make sure that new head unit does have the facility for remote control - most do these days. To retain use of the steering wheel controls (and sound for the parking sensors, speed sensitive volume control, etc) you will need a CAN Bus adpator specific to the C4 and your chosen radio. Connects2 is good place to check for what you need. You will also need an aerial adaptor as the RD4 uses a Fakra connector. When you new head unit is fitted, when you press the "Menu" button, the audio icon will either be absent or greyed out. The display for the radio will now of course be on the new head unit. The Trip computer and other icons will be as they were. Note that the C4 is not DAB ready, and fitting the necessary second DAB aerial is no easy task. Hope this helps.
  15. Yes, it's good to find diesel is the same price as unleaded. I filled up with Shell diesel recently, but I can't say I've noticed any significant difference from my usual 52-53mpg. I am looking forward to a visit to Scotland, when it should be possible to get 700 miles from the tank. At the moment I get around 640; I tend to set the distance to destination as 622 miles (1,000Km) when I fill up, ignoring what the the computer generates.
  16. I bought it for comfort not being interested in a driver's car (what ever that is) having had to put up with the hard ride of the F*c*s for years. And have you changed the nearside headlight bulb of a F*c*s? How Many Ford Mechanics Does It Take To Change a Focus Headlight?
  17. Sod's law…
  18. Congrats on re-joining the Citroën fratentiy again! No the arm shouldn't slide forward so easily; it's worn loose, though I'm not sure how you'd firm it up. Maybe they can have a look at that and the driver's side tray under warranty. What kind of tyres/wheels have you got, or are the local roads a result of exploded mines?
  19. We have a 53 F*c*s Zetec as well as 55 Hdi C4. And it's the F*c*s that always gets left on the drive when there's a choice. The F*c*s is good, but the C4 is better. The C4 is roomier, has bigger seats, is more relaxing, has better A/C, uses less fuel, has better braking, a bigger boot, is more stylish and much easier when it comes to lowering the rear seats. What really lets the C4 down is the incomplete conversion to RHD/UK Spec - the absence of the keyhole on the driver's door, scraping your knuckles on the passenger seat when using the handbrake, the trip computer really being metric not imperial, and the wipers and most of minor controls still set up for LHD - like the bonnet release.

I've read Pirellis have a shorter life, but otherwise perform similarly. After much online searching, and taking into account the cost of delivery, new valves, fitting on alloy wheels, off-car balancing and disposal of te old tyres, http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk seems to be the cheapest.

    Tyres

I need two new front tyres on my 18 month old "55" C4 VTR+. I'm coming up to 25K miles/40K Km amd the tread on the front is almost at the the limit, with the wear indicator almost level. I guess that within a month they'll be illegal. I've got 205/50 R16 W Michelin Pilot Exaltos, as per the sticker in the driver's door jam, and have been a bit shocked by the cost of new tyres, not less than about £135 tyre, fitted, &c. at National Tyre. http://www.tyre-shopper.co.uk Does any one have any suggestions for alternatives? Pirelli PZeros seem to be about the same price, but wear out faster. At the moment I'm bracing myself for buying the Exaltos.
  25. I suspected as much… There's a pair of Bosch AeroTwins on FleaBay for a BuyItNow price of £39.95. They could have listed/shown the sizes and parts numbers: Click here
