  1. Having recently replaced my wiper blades, I've had a good look at the old ones. They're certainly very different from the conventional blade, based on a rubber blade with a steel spine. The material seems have a curved shape "memorised" to ensure even pressure along the point of contact. It does look as though the end caps come off and the rubber should slide out, but I couldn't get the caps off, and the profile of the rubber is very different from a conventional length which can be bought in Halfrauds. The new blades are very, very good. Link to Bosch… Citroën Part Numbers: 6426.XF - 700mm wiper blade (UK/RHD nearside) 6426.XG - 600mm wiper blade (UK/RHD offside)
  2. Yes Yes That's where the jury is still out.
  3. Very much so. http://www.jdpower.com/corporate/news/rele...pdf/2006079.pdf
  4. I almost got 700 miles from a tankful over Easter. I did a lot of motorway driving, (Liverpool - Hull - Milton Keynes -Manchester - Liverpool) and with 672 miles travelled, an estimated 34 miles remaining with the guage on empty and the low fuel light on, I chickened out when I saw ASDA in Hunt's Cross selling diesel at 91.9p/litre. It took 57 litres to fill the tank, meaning there was about 3 litres remaining, so I could have probably done it. Another time perhaps…
  5. That's very good indeed. Nice one! I can't quite match that, but if the fuel guage was more accurate at indicating what was left in the tank as it approached empty, I'd be going for over 600 miles per tankful. Last week, the guage was indicating 17 miles remaining after travelling about 570 miles since filling up, but I could only put in 52 litres, suggesting there was still about 8 litres in the tank. If I had ignored the guage and gone on my own calculations, I could have made about 640 miles.
  6. Likewise. Though I use it very rarely as the car garaged most nights. It does seem like the vents are blocked or something.
  7. This is how bad it was less than a mile from the Irsh Sea… http://bigjohnd.250free.com/CitC4/P1000071_120px.jpg
  8. Great news!!
  9. Ah! Sorry, I thought it was an external aerial. Something like this. Many thanks. Iechyd da! John 21:58 07/02/2007 GMT
  10. Looks sharp, and the narrow depth of field suggests a nice fast lens. Cool!
  11. Good to hear it's all going as expected, and good fun too! I'm intrigued by the aerial on the front windscreen as I'm thinking of doing the same for my DAB radio. Did you install it yourself, and what's the route of the cable from the top of the 'screen to the device? Are there any problems at motorway speeds? Any chance of a photo? Cheers, John.
  12. The question is, what are you using the camera and its output for? FWIW… The Canons are very good indeed; you are unlikely to go far wrong with it. Canon have always designed and built the lot including the lenses themselves. A couple of friends use and swear by them. I've had a Canon A1 for almost 30 years with four or five lenses, 7 frame/sec motor drive (which I sold as it ate film and batteries), pair of speedlite and all the other stuff to fill the kitbag, which I used for semi pro stuff - mostly weddings and family which I hate, journalistic stuff, Sunday/amateur sports and the odd promotional thing. I just wish Canon made a replacement digital backplate! I don't do ektachrome any more… However, they are large and fairly heavy cameras, especially with a big lens. Changing lenses always seemed time consuming and I missed more than one opportunity by not having the appropriate lens on. I've always preferred the higher rez of prime lenses to zooms. These days, I find myself carrying my Panasonic Lumix/Leica FX01 in my pocket all the time. It's small, quick, unobtrusive and easy to use. It's terrific for web pictures and for good quality colour prints at A5. The flash is obviously naff, where as a Canon Speedlite will be good for even lighting at a dozen metres or more, and both narrow and wide angles. I suspect you want something more heavyweight than the Panasonic.
  13. This - http://www.incarexpress.co.uk/view_product...?partno=SCTS003 - could be what you need to link the Citroën/Blaupunkt Quadlock to the Sony/ISO connectors, and retain use of the control buttons on the steering wheel boss. You need to check that your Sony has the small jack socket for the remote connections. I'm not familiar with your model, so can't say one way or the other. However, a quick look at the spec suggests it has. It's £40 + delivery. Let me know how you get on.
  14. C4 Owners seems to be down at the moment.

    Speeeeed!

I was really daring the week end before last - set the cruise control at 85 mph for about three or four miles on a nice stretch of motorway I know that is nearly always quiet, and slightly down hill. Many years ago, when I was a reckless 20 something, I did an indicated 130 mph there in my Fiat 130 Coupé chasing an Audi Quattro, but we ran out of road…
  16. Cool colour… Iechyd da! John 19:56 29/01/2007 GMT
  17. Those consumption figures for Mustang and the 'Vette are extremely generous. I used to drive a Fiat 130 Coupé wih a Ferrari based 3 litre V6. Typical mpg was 19-20 mpg, with about 23-25 on long interrputed journeys. Any boy racer antics would make a big dent in those figures.
  18. My favourite Gatso http://www.thenewspaper.com/rlc/pix/moreton.jpg What the press article doesn't say, is that after Merseyplod removed the garden waste bag, another one was put over the Gatso during the next night!
  19. Looks totally naff to me… Scrap heap challenge springs to mind.
  20. I paid the dealer a bit extra for GardX, some kind of polymer finish. I've used others in the past, and they do stop the paint work fading, but applying it is a labour of love. It can be hard to get off rubber and plastic. It was so cold yesterday, I didn't feel up to creating a better photo, like finding a better location and background, and a perhaps a shot of the interior (still in showroom condition!) or of the rear. But I'll definitely upload one to the Gallery given the chance.
  21. Been a bit tardy in posting up a snap of my C4, but I managed to find the time and get the camera to work this morning. HDi 110 VTR+ 5 door Hatch. http://bigjohnd.250free.com/CitC4/CitC4_VTRplus.JPG Looks great to me!! Tell me about it! I've just got shut of my Punto (though the 16v twin cam engine was a bit special).
  22. I've been researching into this, and it seems that right now if you want to retain the Citroën steering boss controls, your sole choice is a Blaupunkt - probably because the standard OEM unit is one. I personally have no real preference of head unit - the ideal solution would be to be replace and re-design the entire system - but any decent HU will make a noticeable improvement with the standard speakers. If you wish to use a Sony, and want to have the controls near to your hands on the steering wheel, then you'd need to install Sony's own controls. I like this site for info.
  23. I expect they're working on that somewhere in deepest Japan…
  24. Agreed. After years of screaming around in Italian twin-cam multivalves where not much happened under 4K revs and it seemed obligatory to change gear only when the rev limiter cut in, it's a delight to purr along at 75mph with some thing like 2.5K revs on the dial. And with just as much if not more torque on hand, but getting far better fuel consumption. Or am I just getting old? http://www.tipmaster.com/images/wink.gif
  25. Thanks for the link. I've got an aerial adaptor and splitter on order. They're pretty standard pieces of kit. The real issue is going to be the standard C4 aerial - is it sufficiently Band III compliant to produce a strong and clean DAB signal? If not, it'll mean fitting a second DAB aerial, something I'm not looking forward to. You can see the SMB(F) socket, circled in red, and the black DIN aerial connector on the back of the Sony CDX-DAB6650 DAB/CD player. http://bigjohnd.250free.com/fiatforum/SonyCDX-DAB6650BackPlate03.jpg
