  1. from my car 2004 2.2 hdi VTR hatchback and the Haynes hi gang, my c5 estate lx 2002 . i agree with you paul some cars don't have the self leveling system or the rotary button to electronically alter the beam height but im sure on the estate the lights are altered by the rear ride height automatically or it will have a rotary button to adjust for towing reasons
  2. 2 things to consider. 1/. coolant temp sensor faulty which will effect the cooling fans, 2/. the thermostat could be sticking, change them both as they are not expensive and when did you ( ever change the coolant? ) now might be a good time
  3. excellent pictures and professional feed back indeed im sure it will be useful in the future, confidence is the key word here ive had similar issues with other cars because they are basically the same setup because of anti theft blanking plates.
  4. the one thing you have to consider with these audio systems is the CAN bus which is linked to your ECU and dash/multi display module components so if its not connected you will get lots of isues, not really my area of experteas but had some problems there before.
  5. the red and yellow ( live and switched live ) will show a problem if you set channels up in memory then switch the ignition off and lose the memory so that's the only time you need to switch the red to the yellow and yellow to the red.
  6. sounds like a suspension issue check the fluid level, the term ive heard here is caravanning especially with hydro suspension which means the rear suspension is higher than it should be ( air lock ) and the car thinks its towing a caravan hence the self leveling headlights playing up, i don't think it would show to Citroen as a fault because its doing what it should apart from your not towing anything, check the ride height sensors are not sticking.
  7. switching the ignition on and off 20 times " as fast as you can " was the norm but doesn't always work, worth a try though
  8. it wont work for the diesel till after 2004 same as most of the diagnostics tools out there.
  9. the AA tool is a good one but no good to Citroen/Peugeot aged before 2001.
  10. its a pig when the code is logged and you know nothing is wrong but with newer cars the code has to be cleared with a diagnostic tool but I wish you have a little luck on it being something you didn't reconnect and it solves you issue.
  11.   that bloody spell checker of mine ;) ( wastegate )
  12. also check the watergate link rod is still connected the clip on the end has a habit of coming off which switches the turbo off.
  13. the cars only done 10k? this noise isn't normal by any means unless something has hit the dust plate on the disc and its touching the disc hence the squeal ( very high pitched noise ), jack the wheel of the ground and spin it to see if the noise is there if it is then check to see if the dust plate is touching the break disc and if it is then pry it away from contacting the disc.
  14. lower wishbone ball joint/track rod end this should show worn outer/inner tyre tread.
  15. the black smoke is as KFK says, does it crank ok or does it feel like the engine/battery has lost contact which would reset the ECU and trigger the alarm/immobiliser? if so check the battery earth for good connection and engine earth, many cars are having the same problem with these low temps and its down to earth contacts freezing which makes them expand and lose contact so when you try to start the engine the earth to the engine fails which will allow it to crank but not fire up.
  16. only way to test the coolant temp sensor is by resistance test ( the higher the resistance the colder the engine is ) if its above 250 ohms when engine is hot the temp sensor is shot, when cold its 3k ohms plus.
  17. hmmm difficult to answer that and a few things could cause that but good luck anyway, keep an eye on the interior temp ie: if it suddenly goes cold its a major issue.
  18. got rid of the 2 wheeled thing twas too cold, I still have the diagnostic tool for sale ( same price £250 + delivery) but latest software at no extra cost, will deliver at your cost and might even load it up for you and show how it works  awesome stuff it is especially for the dirty diesel owners ( FAP/ELOYS ) and at £700+ by the stealers who fix which we all know is capital criminal rip off when all it needs is regenerating
  19. sorry for any delayed answer. HID headlight are software/diagnostic altered so need no new headlights required, standard lights are lenses controlled and the UK have blinkers that can be applied to the lenses to alter the fraction of the beam so as not to blind EU countries with right hand drive lights at a fraction of the cost, complete renewal of the headlight can be expensive or you could get new lenses/glass without the complete headlight unit from eurocarparts ( forget the battery off a landrover on the C5 it wont be able to fully charge it )
  20. if its digital like the newer cars the blower/controls need to be reset by holding various buttons, its here somewhere on how2
  21. excess pressure in the pipes would indicate failed coolant fans because they kick in the fans to release the pressure. the rest of the world is suffering global warming the UK seems to have missed the boat lol. of course there is always the possibility someone put too much antifreeze in to prevent freezing and in this case the engine wont heat up properly and the gauge will stay low
  22. not much help in the UK for LHD headlights but you could try eurocarparts ( that one word for a company I use ), if they are HID lights then they just need to be reset for EU conditions and don't need changing but if not HID the french breakers is the way.
  23. very late answer but still worthy, the light will stay on until you get it reset with proper diagnostics and no way round it ( ripoff is the word )
  24. i would be more inclined to think idle/throttle body/vacuum leak issue but its only 3 yrs old ( the break peddle switch is an issue ) but shouldn't degrade that quick and should show a fault code-- ask him what it was
  25. a good guide here is if the heat to the cabin is good and hot its probably the gauge, do the coolant fans work when they should? if not then I agree its the coolant temp sensor or the relays/fuse if these fail you can expect over heating and we all know what happens there.
