  1. It is still a heap of crap.
  2. "yeah, all's good here, Mr.Pie.... It's Cheltenham mind ! Glad to see you back on the board" I have been dipping in and out of this board for a while. Been overtaken by Wozza in the leading poster board. Been Cit-less for nearly 9 months. The BMW forums are no fun. Its full of Americans moaning about fuel prices and saying anything less than 3.0litres is weedy (even in a 1 series ffs). "Can't help thinking I should have kept the 2.0 HDi 'Lingo instead of upgrading to the new 1.6.... Great fuel sippin' but not got the torque." THe 2.0 litre lump was a good engine but did have a few flat spots. 90bhp today from a diesel is an obselete notion now. The installation of the new 1.6 units was long overdue on the Blingo. What is the 75bhp version all about? Be nice if the 110 bhp version was available. I guess its all about staggering demand for their popular oil burning engines.
  3. Where SUVs are concerned that will change. Mitsubishi have been in talks with the PSA group and the French giants should be manufacturing such beasts by 2008. Citroen head office - Bloody awful. They don't care.
  4. Glad you agree with the Contis - I myself not noticed any increased wear with them during my time with me Citroens - just cheaper and better on fuel Tronny Indeed its been a good long while. Hows life in sunny Gloucester? Oowah. Have absolutely no problems with the blue prop whatsoever unlike you with your minis. Shocking state of affairs with yours. Touch wood its all good. Handling is fantastic but the ride is a tad harsh. Miss the fun of Citroens.

I take the mick out of you for ragging your engine! ------------------------------------------------------------------- Diesel is the way to go! You know you want a 1.6 Hdi 75 bhp Blingo! Cheers for being kind by the way! lol
  6. I replaced the front tyres on my COntinentaals on my Saxo and Xsara and got better fuel returns, ride and they were cheaper.
  7. Something about Citroens that accracts people. My take on this are the discounts, the styling and the value for money. What you get for your cash is unbelivable. My C3 was a perfect example - since when did other superminis have cruise, climate, folding electric mirrors, leather wheel, auto wipers, front armrests, alloys, economy and performance for just under 10.5k? However it was the most unreliable car I ever owned - them self de activating rear child locks made the car a death trap - but I still loved it and I still miss it. Citroen cars do have problems but it goes with the territory. The manufacturer is picked on by the press. They would not say a bad word about Ford or VW. eg Mark 4 golf v Xsara. Launched at the same time and petered out at the same time. Which one got the bad press?!

Your engine is well tight (ooer) even at 1500 miles. Piston rings not quite conditioned yet amongst compents not beaded in yet. Says in the handbook that the unit should be well run in after that mileage. In reality an engine is run in after 10k miles for a petrol unit and 20k for a modern diesel (the difference being that a diesel is a low speed unit and the combustion processes are achieved at a lower temperature than in petrol). WHen I had my Saxo VTR 90 it was averaging 26mpg but after 10k miles I averaged 40 then it "petered" out to 42-44 (after fitting Continentaal tyres at the front). Citroen C3 1.4 hdi - at first 62mpg, eventually 66-72. Xsara Estate Hdi 90 48 at first, 53-56 at the end. When I bought a Xsara SX Hdi 110, it had 43k miles onthe clock and the engine was not tight at all and got the official mpg figures no sweat - averaged 56-60mpg. I did test drive a C4 last year and saddo here got an average of about 59mpg This 1.6 Hdi 110 VTR+ it only did 1200 miles and probably completely shagged by the dealer who had the car for his own use. He demonstrated the red rev counter just before we swapped seats, 2 minutes into the test drive. To55er. I did like the car very much. Way and above better quality than my past Citroens but I would not be able to cope with anymore teething problems. Better specced than my current car which has never been in the dealership since I got it. Official mpg firgures are created by cars tested on the rolling road and does not respresent real world conditions. Overall Citroen offical MPG figures approach that of official figures. Skoda, Seat some VW, Audi and BMW are quite faithful too. Manufacturers like Ford,Nissan and Pacific Rimpiece Mini Hi Fi with DVD surround sound somehow fall short. It's all about having a light right foot and treating the car right not just during its run in period eg not turning that C4 rev counter red when changing gear e.g: gentle acceleration especially when cold, using engine braking and anticipating the road conditions ahead. I am still running my 1 series in - done 11.5k miles so far. Averaged 46 at first but touching the cloth of the 50s now. It will get better. Wozza is gonna take the piss out of me now. Alright mate?! lol
  9. Now that the car is out of warranty, sounds like it might be but best get it fixed as leaving it could land even dearer repairs. Hopefully KFK's advice will sort you out. By the way the green A/C always came on even if there was no cooling effect. SOmetimes you could hear the characteristic clunk of the compressor and sometimes you didnt. Thankfully the replacment of this circuit board sorted it out. If it is this, you might be looking at a bill of around £250. Keep us posted.
  10. I had this problem on my 51 plate Xsara SX Hdi and what pissed me off was it was not noticed in the PDI and it took three fixes to sort it out. It was 2 years old and did about 44,000 miles. They regassed it twice then finally they had to replace a circuit board that controls the air conditioning. Check this.
  11. First of all. Look for a low price. Look out for glowplug problems and also check the oil has been changed according to manufacturers guidelines (every 6000 miles). If it has been looked after properly, the cars good for another 95k. A great engine in his heyday and still many examples driving about. A sweet revving engine that is rather peaky. Pulls like a train at 2000rpm. Good luck.
  12. Was it parked in a warm place? Was the interior warm? I would guess the answers to them would be no. Bloody winter. Sometimes in cold the air con switched itelf on for no reason with mine. I put this down to a glitch
  13. Nice interior. Shame about the appearance of the car. Furutistic price tag, futuristic design
  14. The additive (not catalyst) is applied to the fuel to ensure all soot is burnt off. (This was the next stage in emissions control after the introduction of Exhaust Gas Recirculation which served to reduce Nitrogen Oxide emissions). This additive is called Eolys fluid which is held in a separate tank and blended with the fuel at a controlled rate. This lowers the boiling point of the soot there burns quicker An extra shot of fuel is applied to heat the cat enough to burn the soot off even more effeciantly. The problem with diesel engines compared to pertol ones is that the combustive components are cooler (500c compared to around 900c so theres more solid/liquid compents to deal with. Diesel oxidation catalysts are more rigidly built as theres an acid component of diesel emissions as well in addition to soot and other particulates. The addition of filters reduce paticulates emissions to zero (but this adds cost and lowers MPG). ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Id put it down to a faulty sensor/switch somewhere thats confusing the ECU causing the engine to stall. Check behind the pedals first.
  15. If my memory serves me right, it was the bottom seat cushion that needed replacing? They ordered the wrong part? Did they order a seat cushion from a C6? Hows your brothers car?! Nice pictures.
  16. 35 from the Swift (conventional torque convertor 4sp-auto) is not too depressing compared with its book value of 40. Give it a good few thousand miles to run the car in - Id say after its first service. Engine and transmission will be as tight as a gnats chuff. Town driving will guzzle fuel. Nice car the Suzuki - service intervals are a bit poor at 9k or 6k for the 1.3 DDiS but I guess you wont have any problems with it. It tries to copy the Mini but people will still pay 15-20,000 for a car that is inpractical, overrated, overpriced and everywhere. Your PX value was rotten but it highlights my comment that non citroen dealers try to run a mile when they are faced with shifting a Citroen.
  17. I have said in the past that its the Blingo owners on here who are the happiest bunch. The wooden spoon goes to C3 owners sadly. The only gripe is the lack of standardfeatures otherwise its a sensible car and supremely practical. Them 1.6 diesel engines are available after all. Don;t know much about the 75bhp version but the 92 bhp is better than the 2.0 Hdi it replaced.
  18. The Angeltuning prices sound good. Them robbing bastards at Superchips charge no less than £500 for any modification.
  19. First of all eliminate the most serious cause. Check the head gaskets! Check the coolant reservoir and if there is a white film on the liquid surface then its an expensive job I'm afraid. Oil is contaminating the coolant. If its a leak - get it checked at a garage. Some people go mad and empty the contents of an egg into the radiator. apparently that plugs any leakage. Its up to you. Car or omlette for breakfast.
  20. Do your brakes howl when you apply them when reversing? This is a problem that Citroen cannot seem to fix. To consider replacing them after 12000 miles should raise a few eyebrows.
  21. Michelins are the best for grip youre right but they are not the cheapest. Continentals for me
  22. Go for Continentals. They are cheaper and have less rolling resistance (hence better fuel economy) compared to them expensive Michelins Vredesteins are the best all rounder apparently.
  23. Multiplex wiring is a standard feature on most cars nowadays. This is to reduce weight, introduce more features and promote effieiency apparently. The French adaptation of this feature is very bad and electrical glitches are rife espececially on larger luxury models where gadgets can play havoc with the system. You read any survey in any car mag and they all say the same thing in that all French cars have dodgy electrics, reliability, gearboxes........... The C5 has a big problem as the electrics has a hydropneumatic suspension to deal with. If you have an auto gearbox then there are more problems. If someone has ticked all the options in his/her C5 then good luck to them.Sat nav, Electric seats......... Electrical probs are difficult to trace (disappear when you pull up to a dealership) and garages try to rectify that via software updates or replacing the ECU (very expensive if out of warranty) You are better off getting rid of it. The value has shot down anyway after the introduction of the factlifted model last year.
  24. Yes C3 lad is right. THe 90bhp and 16 v are the same thing. THe Exclusive was originally launched with 70 bhp engine in Jan 02 yet 6 months later the 92 bhp version replaced it (even though there was a brief production halt shortly afterwards). Both models are very fuel efficient with the 70 (8v) averaging 67.3mpg and the 92 is "thirstier" at 65.7mpg. Don't be put off - the longer 5th gear in the 16v version, puls bags more torque might make to bridge that gap. Externally its impossible to tell which Exclusive has which engine unless you have a keen eye and can tell from the Reg plate as different model years had a different engine range. If you open the drivers door, there should be a white sticker telling you which engine has been installed. Lift the bonnet and the plastic engine cover should tell you. Now only the 1.6 92bhp Hdi is available in the Exclusive but the 110 version is available in VTR trim.
  25. I had the identical model to yours also a 52 place. Miles to petrol indicator? I am assuming you are referring to th eon board computer. My handbook said nothing either. Despite the literature at the time, the cars were not fitted with a computer nor auto headlights or an oil temperature gauge! Later cars certainly had the computer. Not sute about the latter features.
