  1. Thanks Paul Ths turned out to be the crank position sensor, which was only replaced a couple of years ago, at a main dealer. Looks like they used a non-genuine part though - no citroen name on the bodyof the sensor..
  2. 2006 C5 2.0 hdi auto driving me nuts - started hesitating/misfiring a few weeks back, but has now refused to start a few times, from both warm and cold Would not start at all today, then started up perfectly this evening. Loathe to take it to a main dealer (25 miles away) , but can't trust it. I don't have a laptop or software Any suggestions? Thanks
  3. screen aerials are generally poor, much better use a magnetic. Alternatively, you could try a splitter, easily available on ebay. Fakra to Fakra and smb would probably work, but you need to look at the connections on your new unit first, then study the connections on the ebay photographs
  4. Thanks both I'm moving to Kinmel Bay, just outside Rhyl, about 5 miles east of Llandulas/Abergele.
  5. Any good Citroen specialists or dealers in Llandudno /Abergele/ Rhyl area?
  6. Looks like this will consign diesel cars to the dustbin of history within a few years , not 2040 More efficient and significantly cleaner than oil burners.. Can't believe people are still buying diesels, albeit in much smaller numbers
  7. Based on VW, I think we can safely assume the tests have been cheated on. Real world emissions from Euro 6 engines are probably 10 times the legal limit , maybe more...
  8. My 11 year old diesel C5 passed its test no problem yesterday. I wonder where it will be next year? Scrapped, banned, in landfill? Anybody got a strategy for migrating to petrol, or electric? Whatever happened to LPG, the most economical way to fuel a car? We live in turbulent times. When you look at the smog in London now, and realise that children can no longer use school playgrounds because of the pollution, diesel definitely has to go... I never liked it anyway. Bring back petrol, maybe a new compression ignition version is being developed? Heard that somewhere..
  9. Can't believe people are still considering buying diesel cars - they will be useless and worthless in a few years. Headline on front page today - BEWARE BUYING A DIESEL from Chris Grayling, minister of transport
  10. Interesting. A Chinese/French company buying a slice of American General Motors. I wonder what Mr Trump will make of that?.
  11. Nothing against diesels this year, but there,s a lot of noise about big increases on the way. No doubt diesel is in its death throws now, with Renault and Toyota already announcing they are phasing out diesel engines across their car ranges..
  12. Diesel cars will quite rightly be hammered with large tax hikes as part of a global initiative to get the dirty things off the road. Latest thoughts are cash incentives of 2 or 3 thousand pounds for owners to scrap their diesels (not linked to a trade in) - maybe not allowed to register another diesel? Bring it on.... DIE DIESEL

The law on this is All cars launched after November 14 must have TPMS (across the range) All cars registered from January 12 with TPMS must have the system working for the MOT So a 2015 C5 doesn't have to have TPMS, because the range was launched /licenced in 2008 If they have been retro fitted, however, they must work. Seems like later models have more TPMS problems. I don't think I'm doing bad having to replace one on an 11 year old Mk2, especially as the batteries are non replaceable and not supposed to last that long.,,
  14. Passenger side visor lights failed again last week, so I too a risk and bought a used Mk1 visor with the replaceable bulbs. Fitted it today and it works fine, same connections as the LED version. Result! - next time it will just need a 50p bulb..

Just picking up on this old thread, I had a sensor leak on my 11 year old C5. It was too corroded to be serviceable, but got a new one fitted and coded to the system at Kwikfit. £86 including wheel balance , around half the main dealer price. Working fine so far.
  16. Could be a button on the edge of the cd slot?
  17. The Mk 3 has a fixed hub steering wheel, the Mk2 has a conventional wheel.
  18. Have you tried looking in the directory? This holds phone numbers and sat nav destinations in a single alphabetical listing..
  19. Keep your air con intake switched to "recirculation" - This will stop the system pulling in hot air all the time and working hard to cool it. Keeps the cabin more comfortable and saves fuel My old Rover 800's I had back in the nineties automatically switched to recirculation as part of the climate control logic, not so the Citroens...
  20. The most painless way would be to buy a bluetooth adaptor which plugs into the cd changer port. (search Citroen C8 bluetooth on ebay) Personally, I manage without bluetooth by having my mobile forward to the car phone - so I can pick up calls while driving. I make calls from the RT3 system using voice command. Works fine
  21. Hi Paul and John I guess C5 should be moved out of the current models section now?

  23. Site now shows no C5's in the "car range" page and no C5 brochure, although it is still on the price list. Spluttering to a halt?
  24. Caught something on YouTube which got me interested , and looking around the web. People in the US are working on a system for powering petrol engines with fumes, rather than liquid. There are working examples , returning over 200 mpg (US gallons), so around 230 mpg for europe They are working using a jerrycan mounted in the engine bay, part filled with petrol with an air intake and a feed direct to the engine's air intake (mixture of air and fumes is drawn into the engine). Existing fuel pump is disabled, Result is massive fuel economy , very low emissions and reduced carbon in the engine Of course, development has been suppressed because of the catastrophic effect on the oil industry. This is nothing new - the idea has been around for decades, By rights, we should all be driving "vapor cars" now, not dirty horrible diesels, and saving a fortune in the process Comments?
  25. I suspect the SD slot is dedicated to map updates only, not accessible from the audio part of the myway unit. On later C5's, USB devices are "not suitable for models with sat nav"
