Hi Having ongoing problems with hesitation when starting off from cold. Car is a 2008 mk 2, 2 litre petrol exclusive hatch with AL4 gearbox Box was slipping last year and eventually instructed main dealer to drain and refill the box (no fault codes were showing, which apparently means nothing's wrong, even if you do get stranded with no drive on the way to work! Enough dealer bashing for now) Anyway, that fixed the slipping problem, but there is an ongoing issue where the box seems to be holding the car back, until the oil has warmed up, then it runs perfectly. Happens in reverse and drive, seems to be dying on me as I try to pull out - a bit disconcerting. Any ideas? I can just about live with this, driving carefully when cold, but it's not right. Could it be short, or over-filled with oil? No signs of leaking. I'm confident it's the right stuff, surely a main dealer woudn't put the wrong oil in? Thanks for any comments/suggestions. I am not a DIY-er, so any recommendations for specialists in Bucks/Herts/Berks/Beds area would be useful. Maybe a gearbox specialist?

Hi Anyone know if the third button on the key fob can be changed to a different function? On my Mk1 it wound down the windows a few inches - very handy when leaving dogs in the car (ONLY in cool weather - no need to alert the RSPCA) On my current Mk2 it switches the headlights on - useless feature. Can it be re-programmed,somehow? Not a big problem, but would be nice to have Thanks

Look in C8 problems and fixes June 29 2009

Yes, climate control means automatic air conditionong - you select the cabin temperature and the climate control adjusts the heating/cooling automatically. If it's not cooling, check 3 things Do you have high temperatues selected? (this will be displayed on the screen) - anything over 20 degrees will stop it cooling in warm weather. Have you de-activated air con? - select "CLIM" on the radio, press OK and it should give you an option to de-activate. If it gives you an option to activate, select it. Finally, try selecting face level ventilation using the air distribution button - this will override the auto function and should blast cool air at you. If that all fails, there's a problem somewhere...

Only cheap work-around is to drive with sidelights on, which defeats the auto function.

I just looked up the bill from 2009 - exc vat Key.......................... £20 Programming.................. £40 Discover key code.............£11 Discover transponder code.....£11 Main dealer in Chalfont St Giles, Bucks You won't need the last 2 items if you have inherited the security paperwork which came with the car when new.

You can get a "garage" key from the main dealer. No remote and the alarm goes off when you open the door, but it works fine once you start the engine - alarm stops and all is well. I got one 2 years ago for £20 plus programming. Fine for an emergency.

Hi V6C5 and welcome to the forum. The faults I listed are taken from various posts on this site, not made up or taken from some dubious journalistic source. It's just not building a very good image of the car, and as you can see from some of the replies, other members on the site share my concerns My own car history includes 13 years driving 4 Rover 800's, which were supposed to be terrible cars - never had a problem. So I certainly don't take any notice of "expert" opinions - much more interested to hear real experiences. I have never owned a German car, but know people who have come badly unstuck on BMW's and VW's. I certainly would never buy anything German. So that leaves me pondering the future. My current C5 is only just coming up to 3 years old, 25k on the clock and good as gold. It's a late registered Mk2, petrol exclusive auto, very nice. I have a company fuel card, so the 30-ish MPG isn't a problem, and the maintenance is simpler and cheaper than a diesel. I plan to keep it for another 3 r 4 years but have no idea what will replace it. Maybe Citroen will have the DS5 out by then, but it won't be cheap, and who knows what the relability will be like. Kia anybody? Or maybe I should modernise my old Anglia, without distracting from its classic looks..

I think HPI's are supposed to sound like that - it's a direct injection engine, a bit unusual
-
Thanks for that. Looks like I can get a wrench and socket on the bolt. Pushing the car in gear doesn't seem to move it at all. There again I normally park in gear, as a failsafe for the handbrake, so not sure how the car is supposed to move when in gear.

I have owned C5's for 7 years now, a Mk1 and currently a Mk2, both petrol, both good cars I have to say I'm pretty apalled at the number and seriousness of the problems reported on this board for the Mk3 (4 door saloon/tourer). Given the disappointing sales of this car, we are seeing some horrible problems. So far, from memory, I have seen Feet getting stuck between accelartor and kick panels - panic when trying to brake Brake delays when you actually manage to hit the pedal - very scary Premature failure of diesel engine ( one poster said he was on the second engine in a 2009 car) Premature failure of clutch Electric windows not working. Complete failure of electrics necessitating vehicle recovery. Climate control blasting hot and cold air when not asked to do so! Excessive tyre noise. Mysterious vibrations when idling Bursting tyre valves, and immovable dust caps Brake pads shot after 17,000 miles Uncomfortable seats and to cap it all - You can't even put something in a storage/glovebox, for fear of the lid jamming. As far as I can see, this car is a total disaster. Citroen have to do some serious re-engineering, or their reputation will be shattered. I don't know what car I will be buying next as my "daily driver" but it sure won't be one of these.. Comments anyone?

Hi Slightly off topic for this board I know, but.. As some of you know, I recently bought a 1966 Ford Anglia, nmy first venture into classic cars. I want to check/clean/replace the points, as there is a very slight misfire on idle. Question is - what's the best way to rotate the engine? I'm also planning to replace the rocker cover gasket, and would like to adjust the tappets at the same time, so I will need to rotate the engine for this too. This probably sounds like a foreign language for younger members on this board, but I would greatly appreciate help from any "old schoolers" - or classic owners. The car is too modern to have a starting handle, unfortunately If you're interested in the car, there are photo's in the C5 technical section, thread "And my new car is" Many thanks

Some of the older exclsives had locking dust caps, would you believe. Are you sure you don't need a key?

Ahh - This thread is about sidelights, not headlamps I wouldn't attempt headlamps on my current C5 - it has 26,000v xenons! On my old Mk1,(halogen) Halfords did one OK for me. Took about 15 minutes. Other than that,it's a bumper off job. Probably best left to main dealer, depending how confident/masochistic you are!

Glad you're sorted . I guess the bill was £20 for 4 bolts and half an hour's labour? Not bad really

sport button means it's Hydractive 3+

standard wheel bolts are not expensive - go to Citroen garage. Citroen standard bolts are fine, it's the lockers that are worse than useless. I wouldn't bother with locking bolts, personally. More trouble than they are worth.

Join a website such as www.photobucket.com Login and upload the piccy you want to keep in your album When it's there right click on the IMG code and left click 'copy' the code. Go to your forum and in the reply box, paste the IMG code. Like this:- Doesn't work for me . I have a snapfish account and the URL is in a totally different format. no JPEG I have to say this is a crazy roundabout way of trying to upload pictures

Can't figue out how to upload pictures - it seems to be asking for an internet address? Anyone? I have to take pics for insurance this week, so will have some available. Just need step by step instructions how to load. Help button is not much help! In answer to John's qustion, this is a second car, still have the C5, although I've driven to work in the Anglia today.(Monday) It's in decent condition, the 1200 "Kent" engine revs high, and the car feels quick enough, have to allow plenty of stopping distance with the non-power brakes. They pull up tight and straight though - no spongey feel. Some oil leaking from the rocker cover, but not enough to drip on the ground - it gets burnt off, and you can smell it. Checked all the levels tonight - oil water brake and clutch fluid. All good. There is some rot in both front wings, could do with some advice on rapairs. Interior good. Everything works, heater strong, even the cigarette lighter works. Car is completely original. Have MOT's back to 1985, plus old service bills etc Looking forward to the show season..

A 1966 Ford Anglia 123e Super saloon (105e shape) Black cherry with Purbeck grey roof and sidestripe Just got it today, spent about a year looking for a decent example at a reasonable price Drove it back from Essex - 60 mile trip round the M25, never missed a beat. Had a smile on my face all the way. It's been in the same family from new, and came with the original bill of sale, handbooks etc. Once I'd got used to driving with no power steering or brake servo it was a total joy to drive - you feel so connected to the road. And guess what - the instructions to change a sidelight bulb read "remove the 2 screws holding the lens. Remove the lens and replace the bulb" Modern car designers need to go back to school!

Another possibility is the air pump. If you look at the passenger side of the engine bay, front, you will see a small pump, about the size of a hair dryer fan. This should kick in while the engine is warming up, to keep the mixture from getting too rich. You can tell when it's working by feeling it, also listening.
