  1. You have two seperate issues, one more important than the other. Replacing the heater matrix is a £40 job if you have the time and 'know-how' to diy. The dashboard needs to come out which involves a lot of work, therefore will be costly. Depending upon the severity of the water loss, one of the 'can-remedies' like Bar's Leak may help. The leaking HP pump is probably more important because if you loose too much fluid, you loose suspension, brakes and power-steering. Could be that a breaker's yard could supply a change of pump.
  2. What a load of b******s. I've been running Citroens since my first BXTZD in 1991. I kept that for seven years and sold it at 103K miles. Second was a 2.1 Xantia bought in 1998. That sold after 100K miles. The C5 is 18months and is at 14K. All three have been faultless, and the first two, after purchase, never went back to the garage, except to receive an MOT certificate.
  3. Not so! My C5 HDI is every 20000 - even if I do think it's ridiculous!
  4. It probably doesn't. On our two HDI's, one counts down from 12500; the other from 20,000. In fact they both get new oil and filter long before that time comes.
  5. Just wondering why you would want to change it! I think it's an excellent security feature.
  6. The engine fitted in your Xsara will be the 90BHP and it will be missing an intercooler. However it should still be lively. Make sure the air cleaner is newish and give the injectors a clean with some Dieselclean or Redex.
  7. If you've only had it for 2 weeks, maybe the agent would do you a deal. Some will within 30 days.
  8. You're not playing to the rules!! The idea is that you get caught and you pay the fine!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.
  9. Don't use brake fluid!!!!!!! You need a fluid marked ATF. - Halfords will have it.
  10. Cheapest way would be to swop cars.
  11. I've owned a 2ltr C5 for 18months and I like it very much. It got through front tyres in only 12500 miles, but then I discovered the tracking was a mile out. To get opinions on the 2.2 version, post your question on http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/C5-L/ There's lots of guys on the forum running them.
  12. I'm about to find out. One daughter has just phoned to say one of her headlamps is out. I'll be able to tell you more after the weekend.
  13. Might be air filtering into the fuel lines.
  14. There's quite a long write-up about this if you use the search button. I think it was 'pinned' for a time.
  15. With all oil leaks, it's best to 'Gunk' the engine, then wash down with a hose (protecting the alternator). Then after a few days you will be able to see fresh oil. With your leak don't rule out the oil filter being slightly loose. Also check the cam cover gasket. It may have a slight leak which is running down the engine. Finally, you may need to look at the camshaft oil seal. If there's a leak there, the oil will be running down the inside of the cambelt cover and escaping near the alternator. The oil seal isn't too difficult to replace, but the leaking oil could have contaminated the belt, in which case, you should change the belt.

    Towing

Although I've towed caravans for nearly forty years, I've not had a Picasso. When I made my last change I was very tempted to have one, but in the end decided on the C5 Estate. I travel abroad a lot and can say that Picassos are a very popular tow car with the French and Dutch.
  17. My C5 is the same. Pull away and the doors lock. There's a switch on the dash which will over-ride it. Also you can alter it in the preferences.
  18. Thermostat begins to open at 88C and is fully open at 95C. Yours sounds about right.
  19. Usual problem with solenoids is that they won't open, so the engine doesn't start. It sounds as though your plunger is sticking and when the power is turned off, it doesn't spring back. You'll have to remove it to see.
  20. He's right! I've just been looking at Autodata CD and in my case the C5 needs CF/B1 and the Xsara needs CF/B3. One is synth, the other semi.
  21. Just a thought!!!!!!! But has your car been wired with a full bypass relay system for the road lights? I know some guys have wired their C5 in a conventional way but it is multiplexed.
  22. Could be rear arm bearings, especially if the car has done 100K or so. Also if the bearings have gone, with the suspension on high, the rear wheels may look just a bit like this /------\. It's a common fault on Xantias and BX's. They have the same setup.
  23. When I was in Calais four weeks ago Auchan had both editions in stock. I bought the early edition for a guy on Frenchcarforums.
  24. Local Cit dealer took three & a half weeks to sort my broken on/off knob on the radio. Admittedly, they didn't have the car - just the unit.
  25. Did they give more details? If not, I would start arguing. What car is it? How many miles?
