  1. I've just checked my bonnet, and I've got a chip which needs touching up, but hasn't rusted yet. We've done 5000 miles, so you're unlucky to have so many. It may be that you are doing more motorway driving than me. I suppose it might be worth getting some of that self adhesive protective film fitted to the bonnet.
  2. It does sound like the clutch not releasing fully to me, like techbod said. I'd agree with ColinC1, it's worth checking it out sooner rather than later, because it will wear the gearbox more.
  3. Good luck
  4. I hope you've got the problem sorted now. It's certainly unusual to get water coming up into the footwell, as it usually collects there having come in higher up. When I had a Lotus Elan (1970s one) after buying it, I noticed there were some small holes in the floor. Nothing much seemed to come in through them, so I left them. When we were touring in Scotland, I found out what they were for. After 4 days torrential rain, the carpets were soaked, but at least the worst of the water was dripping out onto the road
  5. I wondered that. It seems they have renamed the Vibe and Rhythm as VT and VTR Welcome to the forum  I'm sure you'll enjoy the C1, I've had mine a year and still enjoy driving it
  6. It's certainly reassuring that you were OK, and I'm glad you got a new one, it looks very smart ;)
  7. Thanks for that tip  I can see why it had you scratching your head. In my past experience, in most cars the warning light would come on if the alternator wasn't charging. With our old Rover 2000, it used to come on if the idle speed was set a little too slow <_<
  8. In this months Evo magazine they have an article called "Chariots of Hire". They took a new Ford Ka to the south of France, and hired a C1, Fiat 500 and a Chevrolet Matiz to give them a good thrashing on the mountain roads. The C1 came out as the most fun by far: It makes a nice change reading about an affordable fun car in a magazine. I get a bit bored reading about supercars that cost hundreds of thousands of pounds all the while knowing that the insurance premium would cost more than a C1 new!
  9. Thanks for the great advice :) I'm making notes of all these tips for when my seals get a bit cranky and start leaking
  10. That's a good idea, and it would explain why some cars leak and others are fine with the same seals. Do you think the doors weren't adjusted correctly? Or in other words are the doors now in line with the other panels, or did you have to over close them a little?

    Abs

ABS brakes do have some drawbacks, but 99% of the time they are safer. I think the 1% is when there's deep snow, and a locked wheel is slowed faster by the snow plough effect, not often of use in most of the UK ;) ABS does work below 25mph, and mine has activated at quite slow speed during an emergency stop on a rough wet country road. I suspect that when you have pulled into the side of the road, one or both your nearside wheels have gone onto mud or something more slippery than the tarmac in the middle of the road. The brake force is too high for the wheels on mud so they slow more than those on the drivers side. The ABS computer realizes this and activates even though you were in no danger and would have stopped normally in a car without ABS, because you were sensible and were traveling at a slow speed ;)
  12. There is another way to look at the consumption of these cars. I thrashed my car the other day when I needed to get to my parents home and back in as short a time as possible. It's all on country roads, and I used high revs and a heavy foot all the way there and back. When I worked out the consumption it was still 43mpg. OK it's 15mpg worse than I usually get, but it's still 10mpg better than my last car on a long motorway run

    New C1

That is truly horrible, what are Peugeot thinking?

    New C1

I have to say, I don't think it is an improvement ! When I bought ours early this year they said they were selling all the C1s they could get hold of, and since then we've had the changes in road tax, huge petrol increases and the credit crunch :o Anyone still buying a car at the moment is probably trading down a size. Along our road last year there was one 107 now there are three C1s as well :)
  15. I've just received my renewal from Norwich Union. Having swapped from a Civic Type R, I expected a nice surprise, but they've quoted me £275 even with full no claims! Confused.com threw up quotes from £128 to £500, so I suppose they're in the middle, but it seems pretty ridiculous for a group 1 car and a middle aged driver with no convictions. I won't be renewing with them :)
  16. I built a crossflow powered Westfield SEi in 1990, it was a great car  Shame it had to go when the wife and then children came along.
  17. No I wouldn't buy a new one, I'd keep the one I've got  Seriously, I think I'd still keep it as a third car, as they are brilliant for finding parking places and I don't think I'd want a chauffeur driving me. I'd definitely buy a Caterham for sunny days ;)
  18. Sorry to hear that :( There's not much I can say apart from, I hope the repair is good and the police get him!
  19. I thought Alan Partridge drove a Lexus :D
  20. Good idea, but it doesn't seem to matter how clean the screen is. B)--> QUOTE(Jon B @ Oct 3 2008, 02:45 PM) 34959[/snapback]I get quite severe reflections from my dash as well in sunny weather. I just wear sunglasses. Sorted. You're right that sunglasses reduce the glare from the reflections, but when driving along tree lined roads it is even more difficult to see into the shadows under the trees  Thanks for all the tips, I'm glad to say my black rubber mat has worked very well, and reflections are no longer a problem :)
  21. My boss several years back had a Subaru Justy, and his daughter broke down one winter morning. It turned out that with the lights, wipers amd rear window heater the alternator couldn't keep up and the (fairly old) battery went flat
  22. Which model do your think you'll go for?
  23. Nice car :(
  24. My drivers seat creaks, maybe at 13 1/2 stone I'm too heavy  but my BMI is in the normal range :o Anyway, my dealer stripped the seat down and fixed it really well for about 3 months. Of course now it is back, but as I'm pretty sure the seat isn't about to fall apart I've decided to live with it as it only happens when cornering.
  25. That's a good idea, I wonder if they are available with prescription lenses
