    Hello

    Hello and welcome
  3. How old, how many miles, from the front or the rear......does it do it when driving or raising the suspension from low too high? Does it only do it when moving? or getting in and out the car?
  4. Its ok to use as it is.....unless you have a desire to spend money on something that neither makes your car faster or more economical. as already said it may vent fumes out of the filler neck, but if you were that worried about that you wouldnt be driving a car!
  5. You dont say how old the car is.....is it under any warranty and was it bought from a main dealer? When the brakes decide to fail, does the brake pedal go all the way to the carpet? Once it has failed does it 'fix' itself? Has the fault only occured wit one of you driving or have you both experienced it from the driving seat?
  6. Thought i would post this here.....just incase anyone wants to know what the Main computer of the vehicle can control......you have to be awaree that this computer is also used for C5 and accordingly it may mention things that wouldnt be an option on C4......or even things that may be seen in the future on C4 Anyhow, its pretty boring, but somone will read it i expect......might even list the options on some of the other computers if i get bored If anyone wants to know about something more specific to there vehicle and whether something should be fitted or not send me a PM Customer Options 7. I suggest you drain the gearbox oil at the earliest oportunity and see if there is any swarf (metal) in the oil.........it wouldnt be unusual for the differential gear to be making this noise.....the longer you leave it the more chance you have of needing a gearbox.

    Reversing ?

It might seem logical to have all the functions enabled in the vehicles computers but its not always that straight forward. some functions dont work with each other and the computor on starting the car is looking to see what computors are fitted in relation to the functions that have been ticked. in some areas there can be many options you can select, i think in the area of the aux socket for connecting your mp3 there are 4 options. with regard to cruise control/speed limiter there are 3 options. This is common throughout all of the computors fitted to the vehicles and when there are such options and its an optional thing the customer may wish to enable later then they are left in the off position. An example of this would be the facility to have front foglamps fitted. To the average person your going to go and buy a box of bits, Screw the lamps into your bumper, and connect a couple of wires.........easy! Now you need to turn the switch on to activate them......this is where your dealer comes in and ticks the relevant box.......So why couldnt they have the box ticked already? Simple, if the computer was set for front fogs from the factory it would mean that the front fog warning lamp would operate if the switch was twisted forward.....regardless of whether the front fogs were fitted......this is because the switch is the same in either case. With regard to whether a vehicle should or shouldnt have a piece of equipment enabled. Pdi's are carried out according to a check sheet....when a new model is released t doesnt mean we have a new check sheet, your reliant on someones curiosity to twiddle knobs and find out how it works or doesnt as the case maybe. There are occassions where a customer will have more information on a function than we do......a case in mind here is the configuration of the aux socket. I have been in the position of telling a customer something cant be done, to find out latter it is possible if you do this that and the other.....having egg on my face is an occupational hazzard. Equally i often have to point out to customers that something isnt fitted to there vehicle because they bought a different Spec. This is a common problem when the manufacturer changes the spec of a vehicle without changing its model designation. If you think something should be enabled on your car and isnt working correctly tell your dealer. Remember one thing though. *****************were mechanics, not magicians*****************
  10. ussually its a rubber grommet that falls out of a bracket.......the gromet comes with the bracket, costs less than a tenner.....you need to speak to a technician to identify what you will need as they are different between different models.
  11. Could just be a simple switch fault.....might be worth pulling it out and having a look at the connections. the switch gives a pulse conection to earth when you press it.....so if the switch is faulty and it only has 2 wires try 'dabbing the 2 wires together (dont leave them in contact)......dabbing them again should turn the dealocks the oposite stae
  12. The child lock is simple to operate......you just press the switch on the dash board to turn it on or off. However, are you having the problem where the child locks seem to be on permenantly and you have to keep openening the rear doors from the outside? If that sounds like you it may be that the main computor needs an update to resolve the problem. To get the update you will have to take all keys, the car and the confidential code for the vehicle to your local dealer. They will connect the car to the internet and see if something is availaveble for it. Of course it may be something else thats wrong with it, but thats a problem i know of with some C3's.

    Reversing ?

Do your reverse lights work? For some unknown reason weve replaced a lot of reverse light switches this week......if the switch doesnt work your lights wont come on, your mirror wont know your wanting to go backwards and your reverse sensors wont bleep.
  14. You do need a piece of kit to provide a vacuum......our piece of kit has just cost 3 grand, but then apart from driving the car in the workshop and mopping the technicians brow it seems to do it all on its own. Seeing as you know what caused the leak, and seemingly you have fixed it. I'd recommend] checking your area for regassing specialists......it doesnt need to be a main dealer. I know were doing regasses at the moment on promotion £59.95.....a bargain if you were in kent. Had a quick search and came up with AirMedics, there in the staffordshire area, might be worth a ring explain you've repaired it and ask for a quote.
  15. i wouldnt say you did it right! You didnt create a vacuum first. You havent removed whatever moisture is in the system You dont know how much refrigerant you have got in the system The refrigerant is currently mixed with water and other gases due to a vacuum not having been applied to the system. As you are probably aware if you boil water and then add salt it goes off the boil because you have altered its state. By mixing refrigerant with condensation and other impurities you have done the same. With a vacuumed system the refrigerant is initially pulled into the pipes and then the remainder is forced in. I would guess that without vacumming the system that you have possibly only got 50% of the amount of refrigerant in even though you have the correct pressure. So if you have insufficient refrigerant you cant expect it to work correctly. Why was it empty of gas?
  16. You dont say if its manual or automatic.......i had the privelige of driving an auto 19d xantia........i moved onto milk floats for a buzz.......dont expect much from it. A suggestion though.............remove any mats from the foot well and makes sure that when the throttle pedal is pressed to the carpet that the lever on the pump as got to the end of its travel.
  17. Regassing an air conitioning sytem from empty isnt a DIY job. How the system works If you compress a gas it becomes hot, but when you let it expand again it cools down. If you turn a gas into a liquid, and then allow it to turn back into a gas the effect is multiplied. The main components of all systems are as follows. The gas is drawn into the compressor, and then compressed by a number of pistons. The compressed gas then goes through a large radiator normally behind the normal cooling rad, where the gas is cooled. This piece of equipment is called the condensor because it condenses the gas (turns it from a gas to a liquid.) The liquid gas now moves into the car, and is squirted through a jet into another radiator. The gas evaporates and as it does so cools down. This radiator is called the evaporator for obvious reasons. Basically that is all there is to it. Provided the system doesn’t develop a leak the gas will continue this cycle almost ad-infinitum. Everything else in the system is designed to control temperature or to ensure a longer life for the equipment. Dangers of Air Conditioning Refrigerant 1 ) Refrigerant in the system is under pressure ( can be 300 psi with the system switched on ). normaly approx 50 - 100 psi in static conditions. 2 ) Liquid on the skin can cause cold burns ( frost bite ) and can be very dangerous to the eyes. 3 ) The gas vapours are heavier than air. In a confined area it will replace the air, ( spreads along the ground and collects in pits ). 4) Do not smoke or use naked flames when in the vicinity of these gasses, the combination of the two will produce highly toxic phosgene gas (Mustard Gas). In short if you have not been trained or lack the required equipment do not touch the air conditioning systems. The reason for the change form R12 to R134A refrigerant Gas R12 refrigerant gas contains CFC's which means it contains Chlorine. Chlorine is one of the main causes of the Ozone Depletion. The new refrigerant gas R134A ( which is in all vehicles from approx 1995 - ) has no Chlorine in it, so it does not damage the Ozone. It does however contribute in a small way to the Greenhouse Effect ( Global Warming ). THERFORE WE NEED TO RECLAIM BOTH GASSES. It is an offence to release either gas into the air and is punishable by a fine of £20,000 or imprisonment.
  18. presumably you havealloys fitted without a centre hole. You need to find a company that has a fixed 4 stud mounting hub, you should then get them ballanced properly. I've had lots of problems with these in the past.....particularly C5's.
  19. just clipped on....... i seem to remember i did one about a year back for someone.

  22. Best to pop it into them to take a look at it.........providing it hasnt been 'ripped off' by force it should be covered. The main thing with this type of question is do you think its a manufacturing defect?

have you tried using a silicone based dashboard (Cockpit spray). Used to have problems with picasso's creaking which we cured in this way.

    Suspension.

I recently went on a tyre training course for Michelin.....they went to great lengths to explain how there tyres are better. Unfortunately, i always find that customers look a them as being black round and expensive!!........the thing is you get what you pay for. The questions i would ask people is this: - you want good fuel economy, so why skimp on your tyres - you want a quiet ride and enjoy listening to your CD's, or need to talk on hands free, so why fit a noisy tyre? - You want good wear characteristics ensuring the whole tread is in contact with the road, why fit a budget tyre? And finally, What stops your car?.....it isnt the brakes they just stop the wheel going round......you wouldnt fit 2nd rate brake pads? Interesting thought, when i ring men up to inform them tyres are worn they will often choose budget, why?........because 'its only the wifes car'......nice thought.
