    Oil

Can anyone recommend a decent oil for an 2004 2.0HDI dispatch with almost 170k, Cheers Simon
  2. Hi All, I had to fix a leak on one my driveshafts and drained the gearbox oil (obviously). Tomorrow is the day to refill it and as the gearbox is considered lubed for life, Citroen have buried the breather/filler underneath the battery. Does anyone have any tips regarding removing the battery, tray and/or just the job itself? The car is a 1.6 VTi 120 Exclusive with an EGS6 gearbox. Thanks, Jools
  3. Hi, Here is what has happened to my Xantia Break 1.9TD In the beginning I have found some oil on the coolant filler cap, but the engine was fine, no overheating or anything else, it was not loosing any obvious quantity of oil... Maybe a month later, while travelling, the engine started to overheat and when I checked the radiator,it was absolutely cold. Trying to get home I disconnected the A/C Bitron plug (to make the radiator fans work at full speed) http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q23/Clogzz/Pressure_switch.jpg and switched on the A/C to the maximum temperature and blower speed. It helped for a while - the temperature was slightly above 80 deg celsius, but after a few kilometers the heater started to blow freezing cold and the coolant together with plenty of oil erupted through the coolant filler cap. I am writing here to help others because the problem is maybe rare and the only place I've found to mention it was here. But there it is discussed quite well and helped me a lot. There are two possibilities for the leak of oil into the cooling system. The first (and the cheaper) is defective oil cooler, which I have already checked and changed, as it had a hole, but it did not help. And the only other possibility is a problem with the cylinder head gasket, or the head itself. Now I am saving money to go on with that other (more expensive) possibility. For more information click here (https://www.youcaring.com/myfamily-733336), preliminary thanks, any help will be highly appreciated. Best regards and wish you safe and smooth driving, Dimitar
  4. I am the recent owner of a Citroen C5 VTR PLUS NAV HDI (2010) 1.6 diesel estate, manual, 046000 miles. I have a few questions for C5 owners, having spoken to Citroen garages a few ‘warnings’ have been mentioned during conversation, and some problems I already have, and as this is my first C5 I’d like to get a feel of what I am in for: Has anyone found heavy tyre wear on the inside if the tread at low milage, power steering seals failing at low mileage, sat nav screen switching off mid route, crank shaft oil seals leaking oil over the aux belts, and I have been advised to change the engine oil & filter every 6 months, regardless to mileage as the engine could seize. Any thoughts ..
  5. Hi all Some of you are aware of my various problems which I am trying to financially sort out but I have 2 little problems which I am hoping will be as cheap as possible solutions. Past history, clutch went. Basically, the other day the "Anti Pollution Fault" came on. Hasn't cleared for days and usually when I get on the motorway; the next day it clears. Well I went on the motorway yesterday and the car struggled. Going down the M2 at 70ish MPH and there is a slight increase in hill which bought my car down to around 50. The car doesn't even go past 30K revs so it is a little slow getting back up to 70. This happened for around 26 miles. Can anyone please advise on if I can clear this problem some other way? Was about to go somewhere today and it came up with "Top up Engine Oil" so I went to check the oil level and there was virtually anything there. :( Come to think of it, my garage who fixed the clutch also said they drained all the engine oil and was going to put some new oil in. I am now thinking that they forgot? I have possibly driven 745 miles without oil :( Thanks Paul
  6. I checked my oil today and there are a high and low level marker. What is the volume difference between the two markers? I assume that it is either 500 ml or 1 litre. Any clues?
