Try simple things first like squirting WD40 into the runners .If it still creaks , you have a problem developing

IT's not that hard to get the door cover off to have a look around

You'll need a torx bit set. Prise out the cover then remove the release handle surround. Prise off the trim on the grab handle and undo the torx screws. Prise out the switch panel Disconnect it from the plug. Prise away the door mirror trim. Lever off the speaker cover and undo the screws holding the speaker. Remove the plug. Also remove the light unit from the lower edge. Prise out the plastic cover on the rear edge of the trim and remove the torx bolt. Finally use a flat bladed tool to prize out the clips holding the panel on all four sides.

hi Paul

has you can tell .I am not into diy car problems , I did go and have a look but all I could see that was going to come off was a circular plastic cap on the edge of the car door near the car lock . if you under stand that ? behind the cap is a star or torx shaped bolt head or screw head . I was baffled by that and put the cap back on . I have been trying to get a Haynes manual for my model of car ,but they don't seem to have brought one out for this model ? 59 plate .. 2 Lt  hdi . thought I might get step by step guidance and diagram .

The only manuals I am aware of covering your car are a French RTA manual http://www.amazon.co.uk/Rta-B737-Citro%C3%ABn-Depuis-2008/dp/2726873758/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1395154852&sr=1-3&keywords=Citroen+C5

which is similar to a Haynes but you will need to use a French to English dictionary and the Citroen service box dvds which can be seen on ebay.

The procedure on your other post seems clear to me but then I have worked on my cars for over 30 years. If you have not removed a door card before or any plastic trim bits, then unfortunately it is easy to break things if not careful and it could cost more in new parts than paying somebody to do the work. Your circular cap does not need to be touched to remove the door card.

Hi there - I have the problem that the "one touch" raising and lowering of windows from the driver's switch. It  doesn't work very well (most times lowers or raises just and inch or so). Can I just prise out the switch module from the door trim or is it likely to become unplugged from the cable assembly? Any idea how the "one touch" works (from all 4 switches)?

Thanks - Mike

Hi there - do you know whether the driver's switch module (4 windows + mirror) is the same on the 2001 - 2004 C5s and 2004-2008 model (VTR) which I have? I looked on ebay and they all "look" the same but... (Prices are from about £20 - £60!)

Thanks - Mike

The door mirror switch has a few different part nos. depending on its colour (black or grey) and whether the car mirrors can be electrically folded and whether the passenger mirror has auto adjustment to show the kerb when reverse is selected. This applies to both mark 1 and mark 2 C5s.

Thanks Paul. Mine just adjusts the position of the mirror (C5 VTR), no other bells or whistles.

Can I simply prise out the switch (to give it a clean) without taking the door panel off, or am I likely to leave the cable behind?

According to the Haynes manual, the door switch is removed by prising up the rear of it and the photo shows something like a screwdriver being used to lever up the rear end. There is no need to remove the door panel. It is unlikely the electrical plug will come off on its own but once removed from the switch you could tape it or tie it to something so it does not drop inside the door.

Thanks Paul. I find that the rear prises up quite easily but the front is reluctant! I'll proceed - very carefully!

This one on ebay shows the clips on the switch that will be holding it in. Once yours is removed, note the manufacturers part no. from it and use this so you get the correct replacement if you are unable to fix yours. This will be different to Citroen's no.

Managed to prise the switch out. Couldn't get the "top" of the assembly off - the mirror control "wheel" stopped it and I didn't want to try too hard! Doused it all with WD40 and left it to drain then put it back into the door panel.

All working OK except the off side rear passenger window which jerks down a couple of inches at each push of the switch. This works OK from the back door switch so I guess I can live with it and, who knows, it might start working again - all by itself.

Thanks for your advice.

"If it does not improve you could try a switch cleaner next time, which may be better at removing dirt across any contacts in the switch."

Removed the assembly again and found that it's reasonably easy to take the "bottom" off. This enables all the parts to be cleaned but I found that the neoprene sheet which holds the small permanent magnets (which are brought lose to the printed coils on the PCB when the switches are operated) is slightly longer than the housing. This means that it wrinkles  when reassembled and perhaps causes the problems!

However, somewhere in the C5 forum (I think) is a load of info concerning the reset of the windows after battery replacement (which I now think started my problem). I can't find it! Is there a method of completely resetting the appropriate ECU (?) so my windows will operate correctly? (I've tried the procedure listed above a couple of times but can't get the driver's switches to do what they're supposed to!)

Thanks.

Is this the method your talking about. It's a copy and paste from last year.

There are several past topics on the forum where it's printed, but here it is again:-

CORRECT REBOOT PROCEDURE FOR BSI

Put the driver's window down, lift the bonnet and ensure all equipment is switched off.

Ensure all doors are closed and remove key from the ignition.

Wait for 3 minutes, disconnect the vehicle battery and wait 15 seconds.

Reconnect the vehicle battery, wait a further 10 seconds (do not open doors.).

Switch on the side lights through the driver's window.

Switch on the ignition and check system's functionality.

Hold lock button on key down for 10 seconds.

Remove key open & close door test central locking system.

Start the engine and complete the system's check.

Reset the clock and date.

Failure to follow this procedure could result in incorrect operation of many BSI related items.

I often have to charge the battery on our C5 since it is not used too often. So over many disconnections/reconnections without needing to do a bsi reset, I have found the following always works and have included it in the C5, C4 and C3 Technical Section pinned Common Problems posts and resetting the window anti pinch is simply taking the windows down and then back up to the top (as noted in the handbooks). Whether Halfords know to let the bsi shutdown and start up I do not know.

16. Odd electrical problems caused by wrong battery disconnection procedure.

If you need to disconnect the battery and not do a BSI reset procedure, I have found the following has not given me any problems on a 2004 and 2007 C5 and a 2003 C3:

- remove the ignition key from the car

- open the bonnet

- wait a few minutes for the BSI to shut down

- disconnect the battery negative terminal

When reconnecting

- ignition key out of the car

- reconnect the battery

- wait a few minutes

- insert the key in the ignition and wait a minute

- turn the key to the first position and wait a minute

- turn the key so the dash lights come on and wait a minute

- start the engine

- take the windows down and up to reset the anti pinch

- reset the clock (and radio on the C3).

No - actually it was from people who'd tried raising and lowering windows up to 10 times to try to get them to operate correctly.

However, I've found another "fix" on this site which involves removing fuses from the glove compartment (fuse 4 for passenger door, fuse 5 for driver's) so I'm going to try that.

I also see a "used" switch on Ebay and have found a new switch on a Chinese site ! Bit reluctant to buy anything just yet !

Thanks though. I'll let you know whether ANYTHING is successful!!!
